Katy Perry

According to Fox News, Dillards and Walmart pulled Katy Perry’s slip-on loafers from store shelves and online after receiving complaints that the shoes resemble blackface.

The shoes, known as “Rue Face Slip On Loafers” and “Ora Face Block Heel Sandals” are part of Katy’s shoe line that features faces on shoes. The shoe at the center of the controversy is black and features a pair of eyes, a triangle nose, and feminine red lips.

The shoes, which don’t resemble blackface at all, are also available in different colors.

Katy’s brand released a statement acknowledging the shoes were pulled from stores “in order to be respectful and sensitive.”

A source tells TMZ the shoes were removed following online backlash.

Overly sensitive social media users continue to express their outrage on Katy’s Twitter account, with one user tweeting: “ignorance is never a fashion statement,” while another user asked if Katy is “actually serious right now.”

“The most offensive part is how ugly the shoes,” a 3rd user tweeted.
