Why Urban Blogs Went Dark

They say if you want to get black people to join together in protesting a cause, just put it on the side of a bandwagon and we will all jump on board.

Yesterday, a few of your favorite urban blogs “went dark” in protest of 2 anti-piracy bills that has the Internet in an uproar. Urban bloggers, who certainly meant well, blacked out their blogs yesterday while the TMZ’s and the YouTube’s — websites that these bills would most likely affect — stayed in business as usual.

We never take the 10 minutes to research anything. We just jump on the first bandwagon that comes along because everyone else is on it — or because Russell Simmons tolds us to.

HELLO! The government already has the power to shut websites down. They’re doing it every day.

FAIL: Jay Z laid off over half of Rocawear staff the day before Blue Ivy was born

Remember when rumors about Jay Z and Beyonce paying $1.3 million to rent an entire floor at NY’s Lenox Hill hospital turned out be a lie? Well, they didn’t clear up that rumor like they did with the other rumors about the birth because they want you to believe that they spent that cash. Why? Because the money isn’t rolling in like it used to.

Both Beyonce and Jay Z haven’t had million selling hits in some time. And you know what happens to celebrities when their endless cash supply stops rolling in but they are still living beyond their means.

According to documents filed at the New York Department of Labor, 28 of the 56 workers at the fashion label were let go on January 6. That’s the day before the couple’s daughter, Blue Ivy, was born.

Fashion FAIL: Justin Bieber’s FAKE Louis Vuitton – How We Got the Story

About 4 years ago, Louis Vuitton announced its plans to discontinue the custom orders division of its luxury brand. This meant they would no longer accept custom orders for bags or clothing from celebrities or the public.

This news came at a time when Kanye West’s custom $6,300 LV backpack was all the rage on the blogs.

I wanted a smaller version of that backpack, but a rep at the Louis Vuitton corporate office assured me that LV would “probably” resume accepting custom orders “in the future” (this was 3 years ago).

So imagine my surprise when I saw the pictures of Justin Bieber wearing what appeared to be a custom made Louis Vuitton jacket to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas last week.

Worker Films Rats Running Over Buns in McDonald’s

McDonald’s is back in the news again.

This time, a Philadelphia McDonald’s restaurant is in the news after a former employee released a cell phone video showing live rats scurrying over and around hamburger buns.

According to Fox News affiliate in Philadelphia, Karrium Demaio said he frequently saw mouse droppings on bread, and was told by the restaurant manager to brush the droppings off the bread, throw out the chewed bread and serve the rest to customers.

“There hasn’t been a time when we couldn’t go in the back and see mouse droppings on the bread,” said Demaio who was fired for missing a shift.

“That wasn’t the first time. That was about the sixth or seventh time,” he said. “That’s what made me like, I got to get video of this,” he said.

Demaio added: “I was going back there to get something else and I heard some rustling, so I turned around, and I look, I seen a mouse inside the bread. Not on top of the package, but inside of the package.”

McDonald’s Thugs Plead Not Guilty

Remember the rowdy lesbian couple who attempted to assault a McDonald’s cashier but they caught a savage beat down instead? The NY Daily News reports that the two lovers pleaded not guilty to criminal trespassing for jumping the counter.

According to the NY Daily News, Denise Darbeau (above left) and Rachel Edwards (who looks like a cleaned up Trina), were already fighting mad — with each other — before they entered the West Village McDonald’s on Oct. 12, 2011.

The pair had gone drinking, then got into a wild fracas with McDonald’s employee Rayon McIntosh, an ex-con, who was caught on video beating the women after they entered an employees-only area.

According to unsealed court records, Edwards (the Trina look-a-like) is alleged to have said to Darbeau: “Why did this happen? Why don’t you love me the way I love you?”

Both women entered “not guilty” pleas in a Manhattan court on Wednesday. They were both offered probation in return for pleading guilty. But Darbeau and Edwards declined through their attorney. They face up to seven years in prison if found guilty.

Their lawyer, Harold Baker, said outside court his clients would not cop to a felony. Baker said his clients are the real victims.

Dog Replaces Kim Kardashian in Super Bowl Ad

It looks like the anti-Kim Kardashian petitions have worked.

The self-centered reality star was dealt another blow in the aftermath of her disastrous divorce from Nets basketball player Kris Humphries.

Now comes word that fitness apparel giant Skechers has replaced Kim with a dog in its Super Bowl ad after declining to renew her lucrative sponsorship contract.

According to PEOPLE:

The other shoe has dropped on Kim Kardashian: She’s out, and the dogs are in.

Skechers, which featured the reality star in a sexy ad for Shape-Ups during last year’s Super Bowl, will instead air a spot that features a French bulldog wearing Skechers’ GOrun shoes, according to USA Today. The new kicks are part of Skechers’ new high-tech line.

“Kim got us more attention than we ever dreamed,” Skechers Fitness president Leonard Armato says. “We have to establish Skechers as more than a lifestyle company.”

LeBron James Rejects $3,000 Birthday Cake Made for a King

LeBron James celebrated his 27th birthday on New Year’s Eve by proposing to his longtime girlfriend, Savannah Brinson, at the Shelborne Beach Resort in Miami Beach, Florida.

According to SPLASH News, this is the cake that was made for NBA player Lebron James’ 27th birthday. The call was made 2 days before the party. The instructions: make a birthday cake that is fit for a King. The baker, Alethea Hickman, (pictured above with her royal creation) was promised publicity for her bakery Hickman’s Passion for Pastry. The Shelborne would receive the $3,000 cake as a freebie in exchange.

But Hickman was surprised to see a different cake in photos tweeted worldwide on Twitter.com on Jan. 1. After getting in touch with James’ people, Hickman was told her work wasn’t fit for the king: “It just wasn’t what was expected. When LeBron’s people saw it, they just didn’t want to use it and decided to bring their own cake.”

The cake is ugly, but at least she got the free publicity.
