Alicia Keys’ Background Singer Goes Solo On ‘The Voice’

Sunday night’s season 2 premiere of NBC’s music reality show ‘The Voice‘ shattered TV ratings records. The singing competition earned the highest non-sports related network TV ratings in 6 years. All similarities to other music competition shows ends after the opening credits roll.

Instead of a panel of judges, ‘The Voice‘ features four celebrity “coaches” who choose teams of artists to mentor. This season’s coaches are Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine, and country music star Blake Shelton.

Season 2′s contestants included Alicia Keys‘ background singer, Jermaine Paul, who decided to go solo after backing up Keys for years. Keys sent a congratulatory recorded message that was played on ‘The Voice‘. Green and Shelton were impressed by his vocals, but Paul chose Shelton as his mentor.

New Music: Kayla Brianna – If You Love Me (Kenny Smith’s daughter)

Did you guys see the Miami Heat hammer the helpless LA Lakers last night? Once again the blazing Heat won a game without ball hog Dwyane Wade, who’s out with a sprained ankle. Kobe Bryant was a non-factor in last night’s loss to Miami. I didn’t even realize he was in the game until the last 4 minutes of the 4th quarter.

But this post is not about D. Wade and whether the Heat should trade him. It’s about the halftime antics of retired NBA player Kenny Smith, who is now a sports analyst for TNT. During a discussion about Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, Smith aired a video montage of the superstars backed with a music video that was so lame I thought it was a comedy skit.

It turns out the girl singing in the video is Smith’s daughter, Kayla Brianna, who just signed a record deal with Interscope Records. Tamar Braxton’s husband, Vince Herbert, had a hand in bringing this kid to the label.

It really matters who you know in this music industry. You don’t have to have an ounce of talent. Kayla is a pretty girl though. But pretty girls with long weaves comes a dime a dozen in a music biz that has a severe shortage of talent.

LaShon Dixon (T.I.’s baby mama) has something to say

After reading a few disrespectful tweets criticizing her youngest son, Domani, for following in his daddy, T.I.’s footsteps, LaShon Dixon took to her Twitter page to respond intelligently to the haters. LaShon let them know that the 10-year-old rapper is allowed to follow his dreams because he has exceeded both of his parents’ expectations of him.

LaShon pointed out that her son has perfect attendance at school, is a honor student, respectful, and a talented “illustrator and lyric writer”. And I might add that his speech is near perfect. So leave the boy alone! At least he’s not in the streets gang bangin’.

Listen to Domani’s first track, “Stacks On Deck”, after the break!

T.I.’s son D-Money freestyles for MTV

Last week we told you that T.I.’s 10-year-old son, Domani, was following in his dad’s footsteps by becoming a rapper. In this video filmed by MTV News, Domani corrects bloggers who incorrectly called him G-Money — it’s D-Money. Domani gets tripped up in a cute exchange with his playful dad over the spelling of his name.

Then D-Money gets down to the serious business of spitting a few bars for MTV. And what does the son of the King rap about? His money, of course.

Big bank rolls got my pants lookin’ silly
Lil Wayne I’m illy and I got that milli
    Step up in the building,
    You see money flying everywhere,
    Wall full of Prada’s,
So you know I’m buying every pair

Domani and his older brother Messiah, 11, are the sons of LaShon Dixon (T.I.’s first baby mother).

New Music: Bridget Kelly (Jay Z’s new artist)

Jay Z’s new artist, Bridget Kelly, is being referred to as an Alicia Keys clone. The artist joins Willow Smith and Alexis Jordan on Jay Z’s RocNation Records, and she follows in the footsteps of JZ protege, Rihanna.

Bridget’s voice is so reminiscent of Alicia Keys that she replaced Keys during Jay Z’s live performances of “Empire State of Mind”. But does the music industry need another LSLH Alicia Keys clone?

Kelly’s EP, titled Every Girl, dropped online today. The 1st single off the EP is “Seek & Destroy, written by The Dream and produced by Shea Taylor.

The track listing and download link for Every Girl are below.
