So far I’ve managed to miss this steroid controversy involving a few of our celebrities only because I didn’t see the big deal. But since my readers are so wrapped up in this story I figured I would give my take on it.
First and foremost, steroid use is not illegal in this country.
Anabolic steroids are controlled substances and must be prescribed by a licensed doctor. In all of these cases involving Mary J Blige, 50 Cent, Tyler Perry, Timberland and others, a licensed doctor prescribed the drugs. In their defense, a doctor is under investigation for steroid trafficking. But that doesn’t make the celebrities criminals.
The only people on that list that I find remotely suspect are Timberland and 50 Cent. But even they aren’t world class athletes whose use of steroids would give them an unfair advantage over their competitors. So what’s the real story here?
Many patients are prescribed steroids for various medical problems. So I fail to see why the media is making such a big deal out of this story involving urban artists when there are many other celebrities out there abusing drugs far worse than steroids.
We have to be mindful of the fact that the national media is not our friends. And now that they are competing with the tabloids and bloggers for “news” – anything goes. Our celebrities are easy targets.
Believe some of what you read and most of what you see.
Believe some of what you read and most of what you see.
This is one of the realest statements that you have wrote in a long time.
I am trying to see what is all the hype about?!!!
I’ll wait to see what developes before I add my five cents:)!!!!
I too am trying to figure out what the big deal is…I’d understand if they were athletes and would have an edge because of the steroirds, but other than that I have to agree with you Sandra.
This story made it to the evening 6 o’clock news in the Bay Area. I agree with you 100% Sandra, it is NOT that serious!!
Same here, I don’t see what the big deal is either. I would have to see substantial proof that MJB had illegal involvement with steroids.
Add me to the list of people not caring.
Wow, I’d have to say. I did not know you were capable of making sense. Congrats!
@2thick4u
That is so true. Jay Z couldn’t have said that better.
This whole non-athlete sterioid thing is incredibly boring. Really, who cares? It’s not illegal and they aren’t winning medals or championships b/c of the steroids. Do the ‘roids make the artists sing better? Write better? Geez.
The big deal is that steroids can become addictive if not taken correctly and in moderation. And when u become addicted to them, u may end up with a Chris Benoit situation. Thats why the media is bringing this to light. As a “nurse” i figured u would know that, sandra.
Not to mention, celebrities pride themselves on diet & excercise. So to find out that they get a little kick in the pants, it seems deceiving to us “regular” ppl.
not that i really care…. i have bigger issues like what i’m gonna eat for lunch….
now this sounds like the old sandra rose….before the site turned into a bunch of bufoonery….
I don’t think anyone actually cares about this. The only reason the media is mentioning it is because these celebs are customers of the doctor being investigated. I don’t recall anyone throwing shots at them for being roided up. If anything they are proof that Chris Benoit’s situation was an isolated incident.
LOL
That is a funny photo…
I agree – why has this been ALL OVER the news in Chicago? Aren’t there other things we should be worried about? And why mention their names if they have done nothing wrong? Oh yeah, they are black. I find it hard to believe that there were NO clients of other races…
Why are the only ones on the list of SUSPECTS, Black?
…just asking.
;^D

Real talk ya’ll they naming names just to show how far-reaching the scandal is, as far as the criminal doctors illegally prescribibg the drugs. But I think it is kinda like skinny ass models who make lil’ girls wanna starve themselves to look like that… are saying if a entertainer with these fans looking up to them has a nice physique, yet it is not natural, they didnt work out to gain that look, that the look was gained with illegal enhancers, that sends the wrong message to fans… Would said entertertainer be able to keep that same appearance, have the same stamina, without the illegal enhancements?
Anything involving celebs is going to make “news”. It’s really not that big of a deal.

Using steroids doesn’t eliminate the need to work out. They enhance your workout. Say you usually bench press 200lbs. With the help of steroids you can push those muscles to bench press 300lbs. That is just an example and may or may not be accurate, but you catch what I mean. The added resistance means faster results.
Putting anything that’s not natural in your body can’t be a good thing.
I’m assuming since Marion Jones got thrown under the bus they trying to go after every damn body Mary of all people what the hell would she even need steriods for?? My impresion of steriods is a supplement used to make you stonger & bigger (50 & Timbaland) Wyclef?? I don’t get it & Tyler Perry, he is rather large but he is tall & it balances out, however Timbaland did blow up all of a sudden but I know he was working out trying to lose weight!! This whole thing will gove me a headache trying to figure it out but like 1 reader said go after the doctor & leave Mary alone she been through enuff BS
And the reason we care about this supposed rumor is???????????????????????????????????
With the sports thing it is not only about giving someone an edge. They are talking about celebrities influence on children. Meaning that anything a celebrity does a child will do. There was no steroid policy in baseball before 2005. All of the people being named in the scandal essentially did nothing wrong because there was no policy when they were using. They used the issue of their celebrity and influence on children to get congress interested. They want to identify the players who did use steroids so they can put an asterisk beside their names in the history books, purge themselves of the whole ordeal. The issue of celebrity and influence sports people say entertainers have a larger celebrity and are much more influential to children than they are.
P.S. the so called rumor has the athletes named on the list testifying in Congress today. Furthermore showing an obviously uneven scrutiny on athletes than any other demographic.
Oh yeah there’s a reason why 50 and Tim are staying mum..have you see Dr Dre as well..throw LL in that bunch too..as for MJB..I cas’t see it..now if were talking about that “C”..different story…
