It’s no secret that most young urban female singers pattern their image after Beyonce. That’s the image that the music industry perpetuates, and anyone who resists finds herself without a record deal.
So comes now these new promo pics of an almost unrecognizable Keri Hilson. The only thing missing is the blond lacefront wig. Last time I checked, Keri was a beautiful brown skinned sister. But I guess LSITNB, and it is futile to resist the industry standard image.
light skin IS the new black
i dont think she is trying to be like beyonce neither do i believe her managers made her change her image. the make up artist just put on the wrong shade of foundation.
They really made her light in this pic but she’s still beautiful and I’m loving her new single!
I think the pics look nice. I don’t know much about Keri, but have seen plenty of pics of her and she didn’t look brown skinned in any of them. Then again, I don’t really fixate on people’s skin color. By the way, what other singer has followed B’s blueprint? I can’t think of any off the top of my mind.
well i remember when Rihanna first came out with “Music of The Sun” she was darker and a shade of brown and then as time went on she became a shade of pale. which made me think she was always light and they made her tan in the beginning.
not sure tho…
keri’s beautiful, we all agree. i hope she doesn’t get a 12 foot weeve and what not. i like her…and of course, polow da don….
It couldn’t be, by any chance, the photographers color technique or something? She does look a lil pale, but she looked pretty pale in that video,Energy, which was very very ‘regular’. Keri’d better stick to songwriting.
Black is Black .. can we PLEASE see past complexions … something we have NO control over … sheeeesh
Morning Kym…Well said….black is beautiful regardless of what shade.
That’s why I admire Rihanna for changing her style and cutting her hair..Rihanna talked about how the lable wanted her to wear long blond weaves and patteren herself after Beyonce, she said that she always wanted to wear her natural short hair and set herself apart from all the other female artist who were wearing 10 pounds weaves and long hair..Sometimes you have to take a chance, follow your and be yourelf, besides why in the hell would you want to be like someone else who’s already dominating the market..If every feamale artist is going to patteren themeselves after Beyonce, there’s nothing unique about them and I definately won’t buy or listen to your music.
That’s part of the problem with the music industry today theres no originality everyone wants to ride the coat tail of the hottest artist out rather than trying to be different..In my opinion your not a real artist if you can’t set yourself apart and bring something fresh and new to the table.
i agree Kym…but unfortunately some people still dont see things that way because i still hear black people who make ignorant statements about skin color and its 2008 ya’ll.
Morn j-lo … i’m just tired of this foolishness … i’m a brownskinned woman …the shade of Queen Latifah I gave birth to a boy the complexion of Chris Brown … and not a day goes by we don’t get second glances when he calls me Mommy in public … his father is darker than me .. and guess what …at the end of the day all yt see’s 2 black folk regardless of shade ….

…..and the wrong color tracks of hair. Blonde hair does not look good on anybody, I don’t care how “blk” you are,
Kym, I know how you feel..Not only do we have to put up with the discrimination from non-blacks but from our own people…It’s crazy…But looking at reality, if this was let’s say the year 1850…we will all be N*****s…But oh yeah the lighter ones would be in the Big House…This is just another way the white man has kept us apart. Like you said BLACK IS BLACK!!!
I may NOT care at ALL for talent-a-less Rihanna but I must admit that she is brave for being different and thats one thing I can give her KUDOS 4! Far as Keri Hilson I have not heard her single and don’t know not much about her besided being a songwriter.
Sandra, can you please give love to Missy new artist “Jazmin Sullivan” she has a single out “Need U Bad” I love it she is a cross between (Lauryn Hill & Mary J.Blige/Monica) but never the less the girl can hold her own.

Rihanna said that she was never this light skinned until she moved to the US. She realized that she had a life long tan before she moved here. I can relate. I tan very easily as soon as the temp hits 80 and once I get, it stays until fall no matter how little I am exposed to the sun.
@mizzdalla,
I love Jazmin Sullivan’s new song, I will definately buy her album.
Maybe they had to make her lighter to fix up all that acne she has going… even out the tones… LoL.

@Mimi Renee,
I was wondering the same thing because I never remember Rihanna being that light skinned before, I knew she was more of a brown complexion when she first came out, not saying that she did anything to her skin.

Yeah I love her song too; it’s so reminiscent of Lauryn Hill
Do you boo, don’t try to be like someone else.
I dont get why her video is a throw back of Fame dance from the 80’s and from the JLO video of the past few years. So not original. Keep this up and we won’t be seeing much of her.
well said kym.
i hope keri goes far . she’s a very talented woman . it’s very rare in the music biz today to find an artist that can write and actually sing .
10 lbs of weave- check
light skin- check
little to no talent – check
by music industry standards i should already be a star. where the hell is my record deal ? lmao

lmao i had to do it.
* takes a bow* lol
Keri Hilson is a beauty, tall, fashionable, from the South and does her thing musically. I think it’s a matter of photo tweaking on the originators end. Clearly make-up, lighting and a computer can help you look like anything you want to be. HATERS need to shut up. No lie…if you look at her track record she chills in the cut and is just now stepping out to say “i’m here, you already knew me but didn’t know”. She is better than any Ashanti, any Rihanna, any Cassie…for real…
DUH???? Also, black people do tan. Depends on the season and region of the world you live in. I myself am light skin…sometimes I look very pale and yellow then I look caramel brown…also hair color makes features and complexion pop out. Let’s not play CLUELESS.
