Now that we know Morgan Freeman and his wife Myrna Colley-Lee are divorcing, this story isn’t really the scandal it was building up to be.
Freeman, 71, and his wife’s former friend Demaris Meyers, 48, were on their way to his home when the car they were traveling in left the road and flipped at least twice.
According to Bill Rogers, a retired police officer who was the first person on the scene of the accident, Meyer had offered to take Freeman home. Freeman was at the wheel of her 1997 Maxima when the accident occurred.
Officers are trained to ask certain type questions – and, of course, people are inclined to lie especially when they find themselves in sticky situations.
Lie #1: Rodgers said Meyers told him she let Freeman drive because she didn’t know her way to the house. It is highly unlikely that Meyers has never been to her friend’s house before.
Lie #2: Meyers said they were coming from Clarksdale where Freeman owns several businesses. Clarksdale is about 40 miles form the actors’ home. But employees of Freeman’s businesses said they had not seen or spoken with the actor that night.
Lie #3: Demaris Meyers gave a fictitious name when she was admitted to a Tennessee hospital shortly after the accident. Her real name isn’t listed in hospital records – which explains why her condition was not immediately available. Why would she lie and give a fake name upon admission to the hospital?
Still not much is known about Meyers, but Rodgers said Meyers appeared to be a gardener. He said several gardening tools were strewn about the scene after the car’s trunk popped open during the crash. We wonder if a “hoe” was among the gardening tools? (Source)
