According the Associated Press, a Spanair jetliner that crashed in Madrid, Spain yesterday aborted its first takeoff attempt because of an air gauge that showed overheating in an engine.
The plane taxied back to the terminal where the maintenance staff essentially turned the gauge off. The plane crashed on its second attempt at takeoff killing 153 souls aboard.
Now doesn’t that mean if the guage was turned off it could no longer measure the heat coming off the valve? See, this is why I don’t fly. When that plane taxied back to the terminal that first time my ass would have got off.
There’s no excuse they could give me to keep me on a plane that has rumbled down the runway with me sitting white knuckled in the seat — and the takeoff was aborted. They only get one chance to take off and after that I’m out of there!
I’ll just wait for the next plane. Those of you who fly can play with your lives if you want to.
These airlines don’t care about lives, they only care about filling seats. My life is worth more to me than a plane seat and a $15 valve.
Wow…that is so sad. God bless their souls. I don’t mind flying, although, there is always something in the back of my mind that have me hoping we don’t crash. But hey, that’s why you pray for our safety. Heck, you can get killed driving in your car, or walking down the street. Stay prayed up people, stay prayed up!!!
Why don’t they make the whole plane out of the same material as the “black box” that NEVER get’s destroyed?
@ mzsuave and prynsexxx: i concur!!!
SANDRA – WHY DID YOU HAVE TO GO THERE!!!
I JUST BOOKED MY TICKET TO HOUSTON, TX FOR LABOR DAY WEEKEND A FEW MINUTES AGO.
SERIOUSLY, I AGREE WITH MZSUAVE… WE GOTTA STAY PRAYED UP.
True story:
I don’t know if yall remember the “Blackout of 2004” that happened in New York. Well I was in it. I was stuck on a runway for 2 hours because something happened in the control tower. The engines on the plane reved up as to take off and then they shutdown. We sat and sat and sat. We never taxi’d back. We sat there. I had to stay calm b/c not only was my daughter with me, but in 2004, me being a 20 something blk female and 9/11 had not too long ago happened, I would have been doomed, if I paniked. I wanted to get home………………safely.
I seen this on the news…how sad. Every time I fly I pray cause you never know. My heart goes out to the families that lost loved ones on that flight.
Yeah, I stayed on a plane a few years back (with my two kids) after the plane was delayed for some electrical problems. It was delayed about an hour. The whole time I was contemplating getting off of the plane because I don’t play that either. Every fiber of my being said to get off. Not a big fan of flying. Obviously everything was o.k., but I vowed to never again stay on a plane after it has had problems and those problems have delayed the initial takeoff. My heart goes out to the families.
Wow. I just overcame my fear of planes..and now this.
God bless them and their families.
Please, there are WAY more train and car wrecks than plane accidents.
God Bless their souls indeed…..you right Sandra…they got their sign….
OK! One chance…let me off right here on the tarmac and yall can go on. I’ll jump right off if you will open this heavy door. I might skin my knee up, but I’mma be alright.
I’m like HunE916 – there are way more car wrecks out there. A plane crashign is not an everyday event, but trust me, on the crazy highways of Dallas, something is ALWAYS going on.
Just stay prayed up for the families who lost their loved ones. A PSA on “why I don’t fly” is not necessary.
Although, I wonder what the fallout will be after investigations are done about the faulty valve. There’s a lawsuit coming, you can guarantee that.
Living in the “A” .. THIS traffic is straight up CRACKISH .. if I could I’d fly the 12 miles to work everyday to avoid the 1.5 hours it takes to get too and from. … 12 miles on the way home takes me 45mins to 1hr 15 mins … You do the math.
and Souls don’t die … the body does.
My prayers go out to all those family members of this tragic incident.
All I want to know is…….
Where were the survivors seated?
I don’t fly unless I am drunk.
Yeah cars do crash everyday but not at 100+ MPH or from hundreds or thousands of feet in the air, and they don’t take 153 people with them at one time either…..
LOL @ ms.bstdressed. Me too. I just overcame my fear of flying and then I had to read this BS. Damn…..
this sad…but, sandra your chances of getting killed in a car accident are much greater than on a plane.
This is so sad, I am going to pray for those families affected. I have flown a few times, but not since I had my daughter. I know for sure if I went up and had to about face for anything … I am exiting ASAP … may they rest in peace
Dayum Sandra!!! I’m mad that I read this… I fly tomorrow to Houston! lol

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I don’t know if anyone answered this because I didn’t read all the comments. But to answer the question..The material the black box is made of is too heavy to make into a plane. It would be too heavy to fly.
This is very sad. Please know that if you are on a plane that is going back to the runway sit your behind down. TSA is coming on as soon as the plane gets to a safe spot and they do not play. I was crying on a plane stranded in Cleveland last winter and the TSA guy told me if he let me off it would be to arrest me. I sat my behind back down and waited until they rebooted the plane.
But on another note I can sympathize with Sandra because I was in an emergency situation on a plane coming from Alaska. We were already in the air when the technical difficulties began and that ws the scariest experience of my life because I felt helpless because I knew if that plane went down I was gone! At least in a car there’s more of a chance of it being a little more instantaneous! My prayers go out to the families………………..
Sandra…I guess you don’t drive either. There are more car accidents and automotive malfunctions per month than there are airplane crashes per year. Your chances of dying in a car is more likely than you dying on a plane.
Condolences to the families of the victim of the crash.
Was the signage on the plane WRITTEN with a SHARPIE no doubt?
@gouch
Ya’ wrong, dead wrong. (truly no pun intended)
Ive continued to turn the channel everytime this story plays on the news..and now here it is on the site. I didnt read it either but good lawd. I am terrified of flying. I am 28 years old and just took my first flight in June 08. I didnt like it one bit. I understand the odds of crashing in a plane is slimmer than a car or train, but heck..something over 2K lbs flying in the air aint right with me lol.
I am with yall on requesting to get off that sucka if something happens. The flight in June, the damn plane cut off when we were backing out the tarmac. The pilot blamed it on how hot it was in Atlanta. Im like hell I was born and raised in Florida where its hot 365 and I have never heard of a plane cutting off while backing out the tarmac. I was scared shytless but I prayedddddddddddddddddd to God.
I made it to my destination safely, but flying back the pilot was turning the plane every which way like we were in Top Gun or some ish. Needless to say, Im “still” not a fan of flying!!!!
… i doubt any of them were told why they had to turn around —
therefore they didn’t really get a chance to get make an informed decision over whether they wanted to stay, or not.
the airline folk mighta made it seem like something trivial, not an overheating engine.
indeed, if they did, i’da gotten my black ass off too.
lol @ only flying drunk.
i’m flying tomorrow, and I will damn sure be trying that method.
We take the risk of dying every time we get in a car. I think flying is probably actually safer.

Prynn they did a movie about that didn’t they?…The young dude from the Wire (the one Boodie and Poot killed in the abandon row house in season 1) He died in the black out movie too BTW.
They played it on BET once but I picked it up at Blockbuster. Cant remember the name. That black latina chick (not rosaria dawson) played in it too.
This is sad. I am 41 and have never been on a plane nor do I want to. One of the passangers on the plane texted his wife that something was wrong with the plane. She told him to get off the plane. He said “they won’t let me”.

I heard about the movie, unfortunately I never saw it. But I was caught up in that mess. I didn’t even know it was a blackout. I was on my way to dinner at one of my brother’s house and when I finally made it after being hemmed up in what is called “the traffic circle”, that I found out we were in a blackout and my sister in law was going bananas. All I could remember her saying (in her THICK New York accent) was “I told ya’ brotha’ we needed a boat.” This happened on a Wed or Thurs. I was on the plane on Sunday. The line for bag check was OUTSIDE of LaGaurdia and down the damn street. My brother threw me and my daughter at curbside and pulled the f*ck off. I was like damn I don’t even get a goodbye hug. Then that plane mess happened and I was like all hell to the naw!
But for the record. I LOVE TO FLY! Don’t put me in a car to go to another state. I literally get sick for days!
As someone that flys on a regular basis (just flew yesterday)…it is really not that bad!! it is actually more dangerous to drive a car as miztee stated..your odds of dying in a car accident are far greater than a plane crash, especially in Atlanta with all them nondriving folks down there!!
I always think about the person that missed their flight and how they feel?
thanks Hun3, you’re more likely to die from a car crash than a plane crash, it’s still one of the safest modes of transportation. Sandra you sound like ans azz backwards country bumpkin
Ive already commented but after reading some of the newer comments I just have to say in Sandra’s defense like I said before, If you haven’t been in a midair crisis like I have you really can’t say. Yes I know statisticaly flying is safer but when you are thousands of feet in the air being told the plane may have to go in for a crash landing and you’re about to ish on yourself like I was, then talk to me. Give me a car any day. Bcuz like I said, at least in a car my chances of me not knowing ahead of time are much slimmer. And I don’t care if I’m in a plane or a car, I’m not going anywhere before my time anyway. But when that time comes, I wanna be oblivious! Unless I’m like 90 something and ready to go…….lol
