my people my people..now i know you are not supposed to mourn death but you don’t ‘shout” at everything…
Well dont in the N.O. they celebrate your passing? Its not suppose to be a time to mourn. I was told you should mourn at birth the fact that someone has to come into this cruel world.
^^that’s correct, to mourn at a passing is supposed to be a selfish act..however we are human and i’m am sorry to see a loved one go..however, i’m not jumping up and down out of respect for others who don’t see the passing as a blessing..but hey that’s me
I agree that if you have seen someone in pain and so sick and not full of life, if you believe you know they are going to a much better place you are over joyed. But then again if your loved one was an ahole you do this to.
There is also a difference between a black funeral and a white funeral. (I think I covered most of the reasons).
Most of the funeral services that I’ve been to here in D.C. turn into church services, so I don’t see why praising God is a problem. Maybe she’s praising God for the time she was given with her husband. Maybe she’s being thankful. I don’t see how that was disrespectful at all. There is never a wrong time or place to praise God.
Its a celebration of he person life. I was always taught cry at birth, laugh at funeral. Why, I believe the creation of life is so magnificent, if a person has led a full life why not celebrate. I dont know about dancing though. My mom passed when I was 23 years old, 5 years ago and of course I cried like a baby, but at the funeral we celebrated her life. RIP Mommy
Also I dont know but it looks like maybe she caught the holy ghost.
Yep, like I stated. Black and White funerals are so different. When I go to a black funeral it does turn into “church” you are witnessing a “homecoming”. And it does look like she got the “Holy Ghost”.
i have been to all types of funerals. even a new orleans jazz funeral. even one in buddhist temple. each culture send their loved ones off different.
Well I know for my family we celebrate the life of someone because they are in a better place than on soil. But the shouting, maybe that could of toned down because when I mean celebrate I mean, get together as family and share memories and send them off the way they would want to and eat.
OKAY!!! SOMEBODYS WRONG AND I AINT THE ONE TO POINT FINGERS.
In the pentecostal church I grew up in, this was normal when it was a member of the church. Of course the family members look around like everybody was crazy, but the church celebrated the life of the church member. Also, the pastor used this opportunity to preach “hell” messages, which made the service even longer, due to the alter call. Those were the days.
My funeral will be totally different. I plan to video tape myself talking and conducting my own ceremony via powerpoint presentations, and at the end, I will ask for the names that I call out to stand up, and then I will have my daughter go around with a basket and collect the money that people still owe me..have her pause the video, and spend about 30 minutes collecting my money.

Wow! You have thought this through.
You know when you let/allow ppl to borrow money it’s a gift not a loan.
ursmyle4me, LMAO
You gon stop the recording for time to get the money, huh?
LOL LOL LOL
If she truly caught the spirit then FINE..however, part of my family is very dignified and this is not something they do.. quite frankly i’ve seen more false shouting then real to last me a lifetime..so hopefully she wasn’t one of those people “weeping wanda” and is truly feeling the spirit

Yes, that’s what I heard and that’s why I have business card size promissory notes..just for them.

I agree with you. You have some folks just there making a lot noise just to be notice. In every situation, things should always be done decently and in order. I always thought if my mom passed away at that church, we would not have our service there, because even though the “saints” are excited, we are still losing our mother and we would not be happy about it.
I wonder if that was his wife shouting? If it was my dad and I saw his wife shouting like that, I would request to see the insurance policy.
I’ve been to a funeral that was a celebration rather than mourning. It was a nice to see people praising the Lord and singing upbeat songs. To each his own.

I haven’t.LOL. When you look at it, everybody plans their weddings, birthdays, everything else. Why not plan your own funeral. I have saying this for years and nobody believes me, but I’m going to do the whole ceremony, program, and everything. I started a video when I was 25, but I have to keep updating it because I get older and new things change, or people that owe me pay me.
People are going to feel two ways at my funeral: extremely happy, or pissed off. Either way, I’m dead, and I got the last word even at death.
My husband says it’s just my last attempt of trying to be in control of something.
And I said, “yeah, and when they send you a bill for all the equipment I used at the funeral, make sure you watch the part two tape that comes with it..LOL
I got too much free time at work this morning at work…
Ppl plan their own funerals everyday. I did not know (that when the time comes)passing the collection plate for unpaid loans was allowed. LOL. Talk about get in now or later. It does make sense. When we die are bills don’t go away, why should are personal unpaid loans.
Sandra,
You know this lady is celebrating the life her husband lived and the fact that he made it in. Hallelujah!
I remember going to my Aunt’s funeral in B-more & her daughter jumped up & caught the Holy Ghost & I will admit thats the first time I saw that at a funeral of course that has been years ago but I always wondered how could she do that while her mother was gone but now that Im older I realize, some folks catch the spirt in different ways some shake, some dance, some shout, some even speak in tounges I have cried & heard that was apart of it but if it seems like the preacher is speaking directly to you & stepping on your toes then of course you get into the word & catch the spirit!!My Hubby is from New Orleans & they always have parties to celebrate & that was deinitly new to me so I guess we all have our way of doing things!!
Just wrong dead wrong – pardon the pun
Most of the black funerals here in BK turn into church services. At my cousins funeral this past June, at the end, my aunt was clapping and singing hugging everyone that came to show their respects. She was happy because she knew that he was in a better place.
damn, she does the “james brown” hella good!
