Songbird Janelle Monae teams up with actor Jon Heder to sing “Winter Wonderland” in a Christmas commercial for GAP. It’s obvious that her stylist took my readers’ advice and threw away Janelle’s outdated black and white uniforms.
Janelle is a singer with incredible talent. But if she wants to be accepted by the masses, she will have to break out of her archaic style mold and get with the program, ala Rihanna.
This commercial is a pretty good step in the right direction for Janelle. I LOVE her argyle sweater.

Thats good for Janelle she is on Bad Boy so she need all of her pennies, I like her music but to me she seems more like a gimmick and maybe thats what’s keeping her from appealing to the masses of the pop culture.

She’s singing in an ad for the Gap. Wouldn’t it make the most sense for her to be in Gap Holiday 2008 Collection clothes. Which would be the argyle sweater and not that uniform she wears. she still has her wacky saddle shoes but she got with the program (the sweater) to expose her singing in a mainstream ad campaign.

If I close my eyes and just listen to her, I get a Gwen Stefani/No Doubt vibe, which I love.

Stylist? Its a GAP ad so they have to wear Gap clothes picked by the Gap stylists. She should go to Europe if she hasn’t already. I am sure they would truly appreciate her there. I don’t know what she was thinking signing with Bad Boy, as an independent artist she already had a good buzz

I am a fan of the GAP and Janelle Monae. I don’t think ANYONE should be trying to adopt someone else’s style…find your own. Especially that Ramones/dominatrix/Elvis look Rihanna has going on!
Purepisces… thats for the confirmation about the Maxwell concert… we talked to someone who went to the Thursday night show here in Houston and they said the same thing. It is kinda comforting though knowing that considering he put them on the microphone and sang to them…LOL BUt I am with you it was a GREAT show.

I really enjoy her style, class, and exceptional talent..Janelle Monae is one of the VERY few artists who is both extremely talented naturally, yet has also been able to develop her talent into a style all of her own…I would love to go on a date with her, just to see what she’s like off stage..

Were you there for Jazmine Sullivan? I got there just in time to hear “I Need You Bad” and that was it, which was fine with me! It was so obvious that nobody came to see HER!!! HAHA!
I think folks here just equate argyle with menswear, unless you pair with a girly skirt, some wideleg pants or somethin like that. Gotta have some girly accessories or you just might be suspect!! LOL!!
