I was just over on Ed‘s blog Dream Hustle and I noticed he wrote a post about an ad that’s been popping up on a number of urban blogs.
The ad contains a “What’s Poppin” style photo featuring a young brother flashing a fist full of ones.
A reader emailed me soon after that ad disappeared from my blog a couple weeks back. He wanted to know if I still had the information so he could get some of that government cheese like the dude in the photo.
But Ed explains that anyone with time on their hands can go to grants.gov and get that government cheese for themselves:
What I really want to get at is the ad itself and what they trying to sell. They are basically trying to sell something that you can do yourself for free and that is apply for government grants. Anytime you see anything other than the US Government talking about ‘grants’, it should be assumed to be full of ish. The fact this ad is showing a brotha walking around with grant money with that stupid look should give a red flag. Trust me, if this image portraying him showing off federal grant money in this fashion, his ass would be getting a visit from the FBI with a warrant for his arrest and that’s real talk. Read More….
Excuse me — good morning SR fam.
IS there a reason why the smileys were removed Sandra?
They added a nice touch to this BLOG — you always go overboard on Obama, Tiny and Bey – I know a few smiley’s didin’t upset you.
When will you be putting them BACK?
funny you bring it up, I hate(d) that ad, and noticed it was only on blackish sites. The cooning vibe dude is giving off is terrible.
It’s funny b/c they seemed to stop using that particular image, but still run tamer version of the ad. Google Ads being intuitive/creepy as they are, there’s actually an ad right above this comment box right now ^^^. It says “pay off your debt (YES!), buy your home (YES!), etc….”
Only a simpleton or an older less web-savvy person would actually click those links though, imo.
Sandra, do you know the most relied upon sites for tracking web/blog traffic?
Thanx.
Okay can that link really get me to that cheese. That box cheese is the best… they can keep the powder milk… blah nasty.
Iyonah I hate to say it but the smiley over kill gave me a headache yesterday. I don’t think they should’ve been banned but not abused either. They gave a nice touch to the site.
Look at the ad…I mean is there ANYONE who would take that crap seriously??? Chedda Gets Cheddar!!! Anyone who was getting “cheddar” or ballin would not and I repeat would NOT look like that fool or have a tacky ad like that.
As a matter of fact if it was about serious money than there would be NO damn blog ads…point…blank…period. Trust and believe that.
I did it for my HOMIES……..

Blame goat – oh, and yourself too.
LOL … are you serious????

Sorry about that ya’ll……..
i always thought that damn ad was full of shyt anyway….plus if there was any truth 2 that i wouldnt want 2 look like ‘chedda’ anyway!!! lol
plz sandra can we have tha smileys back??? we will b good this time…pinky swear!! lol
Don’t turn ish back on! People were OD’ing!
I’m glad you made a post about this because I was telling my dude about it last week or 2. There is no Chedda. There’s like 50 different sites like Chedda’s and the image of the guy is used by other names. Plus that pic of that check is used on all of them. Including the ones that tell you how to make money using Google lol. All scams.
They all cater to a group of people. Chedda is clearly for black folks. They have ones catering to single parents. Mothers. And regular joes.
List of the scam sites found here.

I do grantwriting, and RARELY do you find grants from the government for individuals. You have a better chance at contacting a personal foundation for individual grants.
If that was the case, I would be a multi-millionare by now.
Before I read the post, I thought they were talking about “government cheese”.. that was the best cheese for toast and macaroni and cheese.
Sandra, I know I did abuse the smileys when I post the question, “how many smileys can you use in a sentence”..so I apologize. You know how you give a kid a new toy and how they act. We would’ve gotten bored after a couple of days…then again…
