Yesterday, the Obamas met Queen Elizabeth II for the first time. Rather than bow down to the Queen as is customary, Obama grasped her hand in his 2 hands — that’s a no no.
But the comedy of errors didn’t stop there: when greeting the Queen, Michelle Obama nodded her head slightly and shook the Queen’s hand instead of curtseying to the Queen as is customary for a lady.
But if the Obamas seemed confused about the proper protocol when greeting the Queen, there was no such confusion when Obama met King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia. Watch at the 1:38 minute mark of the video as Obama bows deeply at the waist in complete deference to the King — who did not reciprocate.
It happens so quickly in the video that if you blink you’ll miss it. Obama failed to show similar deferential treatment to the Queen or any other leader yesterday.
