Bi-racial people are tired of being classified as black and they are speaking out in increasing numbers.
They believe it’s absurd to recognize only half of their race and ignore the other race that makes them whole. I totally agree with them! It’s time for bi-racial people to be classified as their own race. If a mixed breed dog can be identified as both breeds then a human being should not be one or the other.
Even bi-racial children are speaking out against this injustice. I love what the little boy says at the end, “If people don’t like who you are, just find somebody who does.”
I agree too. Mixed race people should be able to embrace both of their races without catching grief over it.
everybody is inevitably mixed with something i.e. different shades of black people! im black and im proud. we let mariah, halle and alicia keys slide as black!

It took Mariah a minute before she identified herself as black. My skin is white and it’s noticabe so when asked “what are you” I say black. They already can tell I am also white.
@Anna MC ALWAYS said she went to church with her black grandma
AKeys and Halle identify as black by choice.
In high school there was a bi racial chick but she looked BLACK but she would quickly say she was mixed like that made her better or something so of course the sista souljah in me got fed up so one day I snapped on her and everybody said I was mean and what have you but I wanted her to know you may have a white daddy but you look BLACK and society is going to treat you as such. Nothing about her said I am mixed she was brown skinned and her hair was “rougher” than mine..lol
My sisters baby daddy is mixed but he sure says he is black cause he knows that’s how he looks although his mama is white as snow.
I dont think if you identify as black you are denying your white parent. I dont think Akeys or Halles mother feel their kids love them any less.
I guess i sorta agree. But hey…if an individual who’s biracial wants to be recognized by being black or white, or hispanic….i’m fine wit it too. Don’t bother me…..i ain’t offended…..
let’s just all be human… I like that idea..
I thought that was a done deal. On various applications/registrations there are boxes marked bi-racial or other.
People I meet are real quick to say Bi-racial. IDK the stats, but I’ve seen more bi-racial children in Pittsburgh than Black or White. It’s very noticeable here. Though I think the reason behind it here in Pittsburgh is a little offensive. Low class Black men with their equally classed White women seem to be the rule rather than the exception here.
Still, the children shouldn’t suffer for it and be proud of whom they are. BTW, it doesn’t seem to be an issue here. Again, Bi-racial seems to be more acceptable here than being Black.
i think i commented on this once before. bi-racial kids identify with one of the two races they are mixed with or they identify with them both. all children are different. if you ask all bi-racial kids are the black or white, they all will have something different to say.
i dont tell anyone my child is black. really? ive never been asked before. she is 3, and already identifies herself as what she sees herself as.
Hmmmmm …. my father was bi-racial (RIP) … what does that make me?!?!? lol
It should be up to the mixed person to decide. Not other people especially those that don’t know what it is like to be mixed. Some people maybe mixed but are being raised by the opposite parent. So if a white/black kid that looks white but is being raised completely black. They shouldn’t get a problems claiming that and vice versa. Every mixed person has a story. It is easy for people that are just white or black to identify. I am mixed with asian/black. However my mother who is asian was disowned, so I have no idea or culture of the asian side of things. Also I was raised by my Dad and his family. Growing up you deal with racism on several levels because you get it from every way black, whites, asians, etc. When you are just black you only have half the burden.
@dblaq I was with you until your last line. I totally DISAGREE! Being black I have way more than HALF the burden IMO. Black men have the ENTIRE burden IMO.
Good Morning all.
I agree that no matter what a bi racial kid identifies with society will look at them as black (if they have black blood in them).
Now would a half Irish half German person also apply to this rule?
A Half Chinese /half Japanese (Asian people date outside of their race in very high numbers)
Half Greek/ half Italian
Or does this only apply if you have some black blood pumping thru your bi racial veins? Just another way to label black people. Which is why I don’t like the term African American. Just call me what I am Black.
Morning family! Good to see you…that is all
@iscream, all those mixes you just said are just bi-cultural, not bi-racial

I think what he meant was,and dblaq correct me if I’m wrong, when you’re just one race (black) you know the discrimination and hatred is coming from outside, but when you’re bi-racial and mixed with black, you get it from everyone, including black folks
Not all Bi-racial people are tired of being classified as black. Many prefer “black” because they both feel and see themselves as black and there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s an individual thing, It’s really up to people to decide how they want to identify themselves.
Sandra are you latino? I’m only asking cause you look at race very similar to how they view race in latin america.
Anyway how far do you wanna go? Take Brazil for example – a country with more people of african descent than America.
If a Brazilian who’s half black gets married to someone who is black their children will not be black cause one of the parent is only half. Is that the type of mentality you’re looking for in America?…If that’s the case then Obama’s daughters should not be considered black to you, right?
I claim other
Who would want to associate with booty tooters heathens and hoodrats ??
Kara Z that’s exactly what I meant. When you are bi-racial you get hate from blacks, whites, pretty every race that’s out there, they all look at you as outsiders. If you are just black you at least know where you belong and have more support. That’s why I also say if you are not bi-racial you can’t speak on their behalf. When I grew up I had to be twice as crazy, twice as vicious, twice as aggressive because people would always challenge you especially black folk. They hate on you because they think, that you think you are better than them. They sh!tty as remarks about “Good Hair, light skinned, call you chinky, especially when they get mad”. So as far as full bred black people they have been the most racist on the note!
IMO Blacks can be prejudice but NOT racist as we don’t have the power as a people to hold another race back or down. Just my .02
The sentiment behind prejudice and racism is the same, no need to split atoms or speak in semantics.
Im mixed. (I’m light bright)
But I barely acknowledge it.
I say Im black.
I dont get why someone whose mixed but looks black would walk around saying their white.
Mixed people dont need their own race.
Its not even that serious.
Sorry, youza n*&%$. Get over it.
im half Indian, what that make me?
@crystal, that would make you half Indian?
On another tangent, how close are you to your Indian side? ( I assume you meant India as in South East Asian)
I also think it’s up to the person that’s directly affected to decide. Typically people identify most with what they’re raised with. While A Keys may have had a white momma while her black father wasn’t around didn’t she still grow up in a black community.
Personally I’m tired of hearing about it. Like someone else said when I come to work they see black. It don’t matter if I’m high yella, coa coa or burple. We come in many beautiful shades of brown but YT only sees black.
@karaz that is why I said IN MY OPINION! Its not about word play for me. That is my .02 on the words and how I feel about them! BOTH are wrong in my eyes but there is a difference between the two words again IMO!
@Mia yes Akeys grew up in hells kitchen in the hood
I TOTALLY agree….I’m always one to recognize people for what they truly are and not what they look like and that doesn’t matter if they have white in them or not.
You can’t be prejudiced, discriminate or a racist if you are crying that somebody does it to you. It kills me to hear people, March at Jena 6, Million Man March or whatever but then go out and do the exact same sh!t to others. I know a lot of people that do that. Everybody will always want what they don’t have. I learned that there is much more out here than just your immediate surroundings. You can learn from all. I see fine ass everything Indian, Black, Latino, etc and I see dog ass everything. So it doesn’t matter to me.
Hitler thought that the perfect white race was blonde hair and blue eyes, and his punk ass was short, brown hair and brown eyes. BUT in science it says being blonde and blue eyed is a defect in the DNA.
I agree it doesnt matter to me either I know for me and mine I am black and proud..lol thats all that matters to me. People can say they are anything they want but society may not always treat them as such
