I’m a little taken back over the Rihanna photo. I understand it is a film and not real, but she is wearing a military uniform. The Navy to be exact. Being a military personel myself and dealing with a loved one laying in a hospital bed in Afghanistan is painful and more. Her wearing that uniform and grabbing her crotch while throwing up her middle finger is rude. I know some may argue she’s doing it to the annoying pap and just kidding, ect. At the end of the day, she has our uniform on and is being highly disrecpectful to our men and woman who are and have fought in it. Some service men and women died in their uniform for freedom and seeing this shows me that one must be careful in any shape or form to respect those who have given up their freedom for yours.

I am a loyal reader of the site and wanted to give you props for not backing down and being who you are and reporting whats real. I do have a more specific issue though, Rihanna and her behavior in a U.S. Navy uniform. I’m sure she couldn’t begin to understand the commitment it takes to earn the right to wear that uniform so I’ll give her a pass. As a black female NAVY veteran honorably discharged it’s disrespectful to see someone taking my uniform as a joke or just regular clothing. If she wants to expand her career and get into acting that’s a great thing, but be mindful and respectful when your in a strangers back yard. I would hope that as she finishes this film she would learn to treat that uniform and the people who have earned the right to wear it with a greater amount of respect and maturity.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the picture. Being that alot of people in my family are in the armed forces, I know how serious they take their uniform. But if she knew better, she would do better.

OMMMMGGGGGG…Sandra please say you’re joking, and so are these readers. I mean, first off, the NAVY funds the most elite of educations, and writer #1 couldn’t even compose a sound document. Second, what about the terrorists who pass off as military personnel by wearing the uniforms that they’ve acquired illegally, to blow up innocent women and children…along with themselves. Or the military personnel who commit murders on their own in fear of being exposed in some way, shape, form or fashion. I’m just blown that you wasted this e-space for this, when there are so many more things to be complaining about. Like the fact that my son is using the same text book in 4th grade that was assigned to me when I was in 4th grade…now that’s worth some e-space…how our children are being doomed to failure before they even have a chance.

Its not the “bird” that is the culture it’s the aggressive behavior of the Navy women. They are very tough and take NO crap. That picture of Ri is the epitome of “my” experiences with Navy women. She actually reminds me of some of my old shipmates in this pic. It is also very obvious that the middle finger isn’t to the military, why would she do that?

Ever heard the term “curse like a sailor?” Military personnel are not genteel. They are trained to be the exact opposite. Whatever your son was when he left he is gangsta now. What do yall think is going on in the military? It seems that some folks are romantisizing it. Military folks get drunk in uniform, steal in uniform, beat their wife in uniform, have road rage in uniform. Especially in fatiques! AND Rihanna is not in the military. It is NOT just a uniform. It is what comes with it. Rihanna is just another floosy pop star using sex to make up for her mediocre music. Those who truly wear the uniform lay down their life for this country so that you have the right to even comment on this blog with your free speech. I come from a military family sir. My Black uncles served in the armed forces back when they were segregated. I SO and friends are in the Navy and they are gone for MONTHS on end risking their lives protecting cavalier people such as those who do not see why this is disrespectful.
Instead of calling them lame, call them what they are: HEROES for protecting a country where some folk have absolutely no respect for them.

Now that used to bother me until I noticed that the military uniform in movies is never totally on point and I attribute that to the fact that it is a crime to impersonate military personnel. the thing I found most offensive about the pic is how long Rihanna’s bangs are hanging. Yeah, everyone in my family has been in the military. I got an Uncle that work at the Pentagon. I emailed him to get his opinion and he said he could care less about this stupid azz chit.

If you’ve NEVER worn a uniform and have NEVER earned one i can see how it can be hard for you to understand that even a simple hand gesture can be disrespectful. With the uniform comes certain rules and regulations that you follow while wearing them out of respect for what the uniform represents.

Rhi does not have a real US NAVY Officers uniform. Anytime you see an actor in a military uniform it is never an exact offical uniform. That is against the UCMJ. As a Navy vet I’m not offeneded she is not flipping the bird to the Navy or the uniform. Also she is a civie as such the rules and regulations of the UCMJ do not apply to her.
What’s next…..a fake Captian’s Mast for her. Is she gonna go to the brig for giving the bird in a fake uniform?

I served in the Navy for 4 years, but I don’t have much of a problem with what Rihanna did. It wasn’t like she was giving the finger to the U.S. Navy. She was giving the finger to the paps. Would people feel less offended if she was actually in the Navy and she made those gestures?
I haved served on aircraft carriers where Navy and Marine Corps servicemen cursed, fought, and disrepected EACH OTHER while obviously wearing their uniforms. Also, I remember that many Navy sailors frequented a strip club right outside the shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia while in uniform. That was definitley not honorable military behavior but it happened, and it pales in comparison to Rihanna making an obscene gesture to some annoying paps while playing dress up on a movie set.
Never said I condoned it…but like I said, their are bigger fish to be frying…and there is so much corruption in the service, that this shouldn’t even be a topic until they can hold true to what they’ve pledged to.

I work for the military. SOME of them are the most crude and abbrasive individuals I have ever met in my life! All these things and more are carried out while the soldier is in uniform.
If people didn’t complain they would have nothing to say.

Yeah actually she would still be able to join. They would just have to draw up a waiver for her to sign. Folks in the Military have tatts. The only problem she would have is if she were trying to become a commissioned officer. The military aint gone turn down a perfectly healthy human over that little issue. They’ll just make sure she don’t make rank.

@Sugar Naw she wouldn’t she be able to join due to the fact she has neck tatts. If she was active before it went into effect she could have gotten a wavier. She has hand tatts and neck/ear tatts that are visable while wearing a uniform.

Most women do not look lady-like when they grabbing for balls they DO NOT HAVE! Truth be told, I hate when men do it, especially black ones, who seem to have lost something down there! Hello SR Family, This photo doesn’t bother me @ all, but the comments above do…. I do not understand how anyone will take this personal clearly this is not an actual Naval Uniform it only shares the Naval Colors, and what kills me more is that SOME Naval MEN & WOMEN who wear this uniform disrespects it…. So I will ask to start there before RI-RI is judged….
I am over here in Iraq away from family and friends by choice,But what yall need to be worried about is the Damn Crazy people in Gainsville FL that are trying to put all the servicemembers lives in jeopardy by burning the Quran on Sept 11th. Besides, that is not a real Navy uniform so it doesn’t matter, and I expect Rhianna to look like an ass most of the time.
