Nicki Minaj: “I don’t silence those voices any more”

Schizophrenia is back in the news again following the arrest of a mentally ill young man who gunned down 18 people on Saturday, killing 6 and wounding 14, including a congresswoman. It was later revealed that the assailant, Jared Loughner, 22, was a schizophrenic.

Rapper Nicki Minaj, 30, has seized upon the mental health aspect of the murder case to make news for herself. How narcissistic of her...

I have no doubt that Nicki has a personality disorder of some kind, but is she a highly functioning schizophrenic as she claims to be in the current issue of V magazine?

Nicki, who claims to hear voices in her head, said:

"I just always want to do 'me', but 'me' changes every day. I would crumple up and die if I had to wake up and be the same person every day. I don't silence those voices anymore. I just let them speak."

Loyal reader Miss Nene is concerned by Nicki's latest publicity stunt.

Nene writes:

My father is schizophrenic and I have family members that are bi-polar, these are very serious diseases. Many people walk around undiagnosed with mental illnesses and chemical imbalances. I think it is highly irresponsible of her to suggest that her creativity is psychosomatic - unless she does actually have a mental issue that we (and Nicki herself) are unaware of.

    After watching her MTV special I can believe she has a mental disorder. I mean how else can you explain her jumping in and out of those silly ass voices like a crazy person.

    I think her characters started off as joke that she had to keep doing for publicity and fame. She had to do them so much that it's hard for her to "turn them off", which can possibly cause her harm in the long run. Nicki is 28.

I know the dude in Georgia that killed his grandma is schizophrenic and was off his meds when he committed the murder, but this morning the Arizona dude's friends said he was normal and not even a loner until he started smoking that Salvia stuff.

    I like it all to be honest. She does need to grow a little more with her delivery but aside from that. I see nothing wrong with her.
