Police are considering filing charges against a Texas woman who shot her husband to death while attempting to kill a pit bull puppy.
Betty Walker claims she was aiming at a pit bull puppy that had lunged at neighborhood children.
Her husband Robert Walker, 53, had scooped the puppy up just moments before his wife retrieved a .38 revolver pistol from inside the house and fired two shots — while Mr. Walker was holding the dog.
One shot hit the puppy in its left foreleg. Another shot hit her husband, a retired seismic engineer, in his upper right chest.
Mr and Mrs Walker of Houston, Texas were visiting their son Robert Walker Jr and their grandchildren at his South Jackson, Mississippi home. The subject of the puppy came up more than once during their visit.
‘One day that dog’s gonna jump that fence,’ Mr Walker Jr remembers his father saying.
The puppy, named Cocaine, was kept in a fenced-in backyard enclosure. His owner, Lazarius Montgomery, said the dog was too small to jump the 4′ chain link fence by itself.
Mr Montgomery’s cousin, Robert Ferguson, said Cocaine couldn’t have escaped from the backyard on her own even she wanted to. “Somebody had to pick her up out the gate,” he said. “Ain’t no way she could’ve got out the gate. She can’t jump the gate, she’s just eight-months, a puppy,” he added.
Witnesses backed up his claims, telling WLBT TV there had been no attack at the time of the shooting.
Mrs. Walker’s son, Robert Walker Jr., said he went upstairs to lay down when he heard two shots.
“I jumped out of bed and I heard my momma scream,” he told police. “She was screaming, ‘Your daddy’s been shot! Your daddy’s been shot!’ ”
Assuming a robbery had occurred, the son ran to his pickup truck in search of his pistol.
Now his mother was screaming: “I shot your daddy! I shot your daddy!”
“I saw daddy laying on the ground. I’m holding him and I’m saying, ‘Daddy, stay up! Wake up! Breathe!’ ” he said.
Mr Walker Sr was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead two hours later.
Jackson police spokesman Colendula Green said the shooting death appears to have been accidental.
Ms Green said: “The dog was trying to attack the kids in the neighbourhood and at that time, the wife did shoot at the dog but instead shot her husband in the chest area.”
She left out one important detail — that Mrs. Green’s husband was holding the dog at the time of the shooting.
A Hinds County grand jury will decide whether to charge Mrs Walker.
“It was a freak accident,” said their son, Walker Jr. “I don’t know what else to say.”

What a great way to kill your husband & get off ! Yeah I said it… #dontjudgeme
Men aren’t safe anymore
Tragic
@Sexxxy – I didn’t think of it as being a great way, but I was certainly thinking this sounds like a planned execution to me! A dayum shame…if the dog was that violent you call the authorities not take it upon yourelf to try and kill someone’s dog…wonder if the gun was registered
my word
Tales from the Hood
Damn that’s sad.
Lady, we don’t believe you!
Dog’s name: “Cocaine” =
If that’s the dog in the above pictures, it’s kind of unfair to refer to it as a ‘puppy’. I have a mut that I got from the pound 9yrs ago and at full size it’s smaller than this pit bull puppy. Second who shoots at a target while it’s in some ones hand? I’m not buying this story at all. She got a gun, her son searching for his pistol…Im all for being able to protect yourself, but states like Texas, and Arizona seem like they need to tighten up their concealed weapons laws #imjustsayin
Judging from the blood on the towel, it looks like she only nicked poor Cocaine. The real target was her husband. I wonder how much his insurance policy was for, and if it had double indemnity in case of an accidental death?

_______________
How is it unfair when Cocaine is only 8 months old?
How vicious could the dog have been if the husband was able to pick him up and hold him while his misguided wife “attempted” to shoot the dog? After she discovered the husband had picked the dog up, why would you even consider shooting? Not that it matters, but I’m curious if she shot the husband first and then nicked the dog or vice versa?
Even if it’s still a puppy, pitbulls are known for their great strength.
Poor man. smh
Brenden you do realize that certain dogs are bigger as puppies than other dogs are as full grown dogs right?
Anyway
at this bullchit story that so full of holes it’s ridiculous. I don’t know if she meant to kill her husband but something ain’t right. Maybe the husband knew his wife was batshyt and didn’t want her to kill the dog so he picked up the dog thinking it would stop her and got shot instead
If the dog was fenced in and witnesses say there were no attacks when she shot him it sounds like she just didn’t like the dog. Yeah a pit that size can jump a 4 ft fence but most won’t unless it’s provoked. Beautiful dog though and from the looks of his owner he doesn’t appear to be one of those pits who are mistreated because that man looks hurt
This is cold blooded murder. Her story makes no kind of sense. Anyone that deals with hand guns knows this story is garbage. If you’re going to shoot an animal you would make sure no one else can get hurt. How can anyone be that reckless and call themselves protecting their granchildren. So if one of the grand kids picked the dog up she would have shot them too??? I think not. She wanted that man out of the picture period!!
@blackwidow I completely agree.. if that dog was trying to attack somebody there’s no way in hell a total stranger would have been able to pick that dog up without getting chewed up in the process, it would have been a struggle for the owner to pick him up if he was hellbent on going after something or somebody.
Why in the world would you ever shoot a dog that’s under control? That’s for the police to take care of – put it down humanely. And your husband is holding it? Pure stupidity.
I think it’s unfair because the word puppy can be missleading. Puppys are cute and cuddly. The put pictures of puppies in calendars which can be purchased at the .99cent store.lol…The dog above is bigger than a small child which makes him a dog. Saying a woman shot a puppy made me raise an eyebrow…Who shoots a puppy? They’re ankle biters…If one becomes troublesome you kick at it to shoo it away at the very most. However the dog above is big enough to wreak havoc and even evoke fear. Not that I believe that’s what happened here…This case will end up on Snapped soon enough.

Because that’s a big azzed dog to still be an 8 month old puppy.
The owner must have been slipping some steroids in its kibble.
BTW she did shoot her husband.
I think what happened was he saw the dog and coaxed the dog over and was holding the dog.
She had her gun and her husband said something she didn’t like and she snapped and shot his azz.
how someone is going to take pictures of the dead body of a 19yo boy (tragic death, fall off 10 meters) post them on facebook, with shots of the mother losing it over the coffin, the teen girl friends posing, people chilling on coca-cola or heineken, and have dumbasses, ‘liking’ every picture.
Ummmmmm, I’m not buying this story at all……
As many others have pointed out, if the Cocaine was such a dangerous animal, why was her husband able to pick the dog up and not be mangled to death or at least bit on the arm? The pits I’ve came across won’t allow you to come near their fence before they charge your way.Secondly, who the hell shoots at a target who’s in someone else’s arms? Chick doesn’t appear to be a sharp shooter or is she? Again, I call BS on this story…..
Oh wow, this is really sad…like everyone else is saying, this makes no sense that she shot at the dog AFTER her husband picked it up…and people don’t typically just pick up pit bulls UNLESS it’s still a pup which makes me wonder just how much of a threat it was at the time… smh…
I call BS on this story because Mrs. Walker first screamed “Your daddy’s been shot!” Then after her son is in a panic looking for his gun, she screams “I shot your daddy!” It doesn’t make sense.
Sandra crazy people don’t make sense and based off the story above this woman is a certifiable nutjob…
Its illegal to shoot a dog either way. Why not get the kids in the house call the police and let them do it. That lady is lying. The gun is apparently kept AWAY for the kid to say let him go get it. So how did she have time to go get a gun if this dog is so terrorizing the family. Your concern is getting ur kids away safely before you shoot. What if she would of killed her kids? Idiots I swear.
She wanted her husband dead. My husband and I raised our pitbull. Although he is a house dog we have never had a problem with our dog. We keep him socialized and don’t lock him up when we have company and we surround him with kids and other dogs and never in the 5 years we owned him has he got aggressive and people say they are. It is the owner who is at fault with them and not the dogs themselves. We also have a poodle and he is one mean cute little thing.
Yall already stated everything I wold say….
Cocaine…..really! U name your “puppy” after an illegal drug. U thought that was cute…..smdh
as @Sponge said…..”tales from the hood”
I don’t think she was trying to kill her husband. She’s certified crazy, didn’t take her medication or something of the sort. A Bi-Polar Schitzo would have shot up the whole neighborhood trying to kill that dog.
I had to read the story TWICE!! it was so unbelievable and who shoots in the direction of someone you love. I would have never shot in the direction of my husband unless I was trying to shoot HIM! This smells set up…but the concept was a good one..she put a little thought in it…LMAO
Sandra the title should say: “Woman allegedly shoots at pit” etc etc
Why would she still shoot while Her husband was holding the dog??? Obviously the dog was not that aggressive if her husband was able to hold him. Her husband would have been getting attacked if the dog was aggressive. Throw her behind in jail for being dumb with intent to kill a living thing – dog or husband – she meant to kill either or. and lock the owner up for naming his dog cocaine – the dog deserves a much more loving home.
SylentDreamz says: and lock the owner up for naming his dog cocaine – the dog deserves a much more loving home.
1. That bish is lying. She killed her husband on PURPOSE. Lock that broad up and say: “good riddance!”
2. Yes- pits make very big “puppies.”
3. Not all of them are aggressive- the OWNERS train them to be that way. My fiance’ has one (his 2nd, his first was named “Castro” – cute, right? :eyeroll: ), and a friend of mine has had for years an all white beautiful one named “Diamond.” All 3 of those pits are just as playful and harmless as can be and are actually classified as “punks.” So I hate when people say they’re “naturally aggressive.” They can be TRAINED to be the most vicious and aggressive dogs out there, but they are not born just charging and attacking folks.
I have yet to see/hear any of the above pit bulls that I know even growl at something, hence why I call them all “p*ssies.” But yeah- that chick is lying.
*cough cough* BULLCHIT!
Whateva huzzy, who in the hizzy would shoot a dog while someone is holding it? Like duh!
Woow, that’s all I gotta say…
I blame Cocaine

Agreed! But even more puzzling is: Jackson police spokesman Colendula Green. WTF?!
This bish had to be
drunk or
high to shoot a dog while being held by her husband. Da fukk is dat about?!
I know murder when I read bout it and ol girl up there is a murderer..
RIP Robert…yo wife aint chit…
so the dog was contained yet she still felt the need to shoot? girl, bye.
It sure seems like she meant to kill her husband to me. Maybe she wanted out of the marriage or he had an illness he did not want to deal with. So they set this situation up together. She did shoot him in the chest, that is usually instant death with little suffering.
Man thats stupid crazy!! Off top why would you shoot @ the dog while its bein held.. Clearly Grams knew what she was doin.. My G-Ma (may god bless her soul) had “PLENTY” weaponry & has shot @ plenty of things & the first thing would say was “get behind grandma baby”..
OAN: StillSassy if thats really you in that pic babygirl you can get the 4 LETTERS..:hump: Im Jus Sayin!
She shot dude on purpose. I bet she knows the insurance policy backwards. Then the sunshine kid named the dog cocaine because its white….Cocaine is a hell of a drug
I had a baby pit not to long ago but after I saw her play with her toys by attacking them at the neck and trying to chew the head off o_O I gave
the b!+chher awayY’all shld be watching Sunday’s Best.. OAN I hope we get a post on the Car and Bike Show… Da Brat performed… her sagging pant’s fell down… Shawty Lo and his hairline were there…
havent read comments, but uh..she killed that man on purpose! ytf would she shoot at a damn dog her husband was holding?? i’m callin BS on this story. she at least needs to be chgd with inv. manslaughter IMO. i cant come up with a logical explanation as to y she would do that except to hurt him. i know i would NVR even take the chance at shooting a dog that obviously wasnt attacking neone while my hubby held it. sad..may he RIP
The owner of the dog is cute, nice lookin chocolate thing
Sounds like a bunch of ignorant people to me…sorry for being so harsh in the morning but why would you name a dog cocaine??? smh
This is sooo sad but I have a few things I want to address:
#1 – WHY IN THE FUGG DID THEY NAME THAT DOG COCAINE??? I am so tired of Cocaine being the choice name for white dogs. One of my best friends did that chit and I must stay, that is one of the most HOOD & LOW BUDGET ass names one could come up with!
#2 – WHY IN THE FUGG DID THIS WOMAN SHOOT @ THIS DOG WHILE HER HUSBAND WAS HOLDING IT??? DUMB ASS WOMAN!
#3 – WHY IN THE FUGG DID THIS WOMAN SHOOT @ THE DOG PERIOD??? I thought I read at the top where a cousin indicated that the dog was not even messing w/anyone and that there had been no attacks that day!
MY CONCLUSION IS THAT SHE WANTED TO KILL HER HUSBAND! I could be wrong but that is my guess!
This chit is TRAGIC!
I got my BH & I LOVES IT!!!!!!!!!!
Heeeey Fay Fay (my bay bay)……
I’m glad you LUV your BH…I YUV MINE TOO!
something tells me she wanted to kill her husband. wouldn’t shock me if that was the case.
What a way to try to get some insurance money!!!
Food for thought:
Never let your partner know your worth after you are dead because times are getting to hard… IJS!!!
Gd morning everyone!
SMDH at the dog’s name …how Ghetttoooo!! I just got a puppy pit myself, she’s dark chocolate and she is the sweetest thing especially around my little ones. How you raise them, any dog for that matter (just like kids) is how they will turn out
The husband was holding the dog and the dog wasn’t attacking him? And the dog is vicious?
we have the sam eproblem in our neighboorhood. Thi sman continue to taunt neighbors withhis pit bull.. he never has it on the leech. neighbors are saying next time the dog chase someone they are going to shoot it. i hope no one else is shot or killed. The door only go after children and smaller puppies and dogs..
@Chevy
Ummmm…my gravi is changed now, but yes, that was me. Thanks for the compliment… I think.
@Chevy SAID:
the first thing would say was “get behind grandma baby”..
To ALL of the SR Posters that SAY “It’s How you Raise Them”:
Dogs (ALL DOGS !!!) have Their OWN Mind and Their OWN TEETH which are Much Stronger & Extremely SHARPER than Ours (MF-ing Real)
Just Google Dogs that Mauled or Killed Children along with Dogs that were CONSIDERED Family-Members that have done THE VERY SAME THING for Some Perspective on this matter (Word…)
This is really tragic but it’s such an underlying message here – I feel for all concerned but this freak accident seemed to be intervened by some GREATER FORCE – Just wish she would’ve been a lil less frustrated with the dog her husband would be alive today – I don’t think she should’ve shot at the dog
SMDH at the dog’s name …how Ghetttoooo!! I just got a puppy pit myself, she’s dark chocolate and she is the sweetest thing especially around my little ones. How you raise them, any dog for that matter (just like kids) is how they will turn out

HA! I just got a baby pit boy and he’s chocolate with blue eyes and I had a pit before for 10 years my dog was great around anyone and did not pose a threat I don’t think the women should’ve been trying to shoot the dog that’s what the Humane Society is for I think her brutal force backfired if she didn’t have true intentions of killing her ex hubby
Terrible “ACCIDENT.” Thats very tragic and hopefully this lady doesnt spend time in jail for something that was a terrible accident.
now men are an endangered species, not just black men anymore. I’ma tell u. them fools deep in the south be fine as hell. hurt dog and all, lazarus can get it.
