Jay Z’s 40/40 Club Shut Down by the Health Dept

How ironic that Jay Z once said “I’m not a businessman/ I’m a business, man.” How right he was.

Rap mogul Jay Z, 42, is a former crack dealing rapper turned businessman who doesn’t have a clue what it takes to run a business.

The majority of Jay Z’s business holdings were acquired to boost his image and increase his visibility in the corporate world. That explains why his businesses often fail.

Take for instance his 40/40 sports bar in New York city. Jay Z threw a splashy Grand reopening bash for the restaurant/lounge earlier this week. But it was more of a show to make himself the center of attention. It’s hard to say who is the biggest fame whore: Jay Z or his wife Beyonce.

Photos of Jay Z schmoozing with billionaire Warren Buffet were splashed all over the media on Wednesday. But within 48 hours, Club 40/40 was shut down by the city’s health department for violating a number of health code violations.

Apparently, 40/40 wasn’t expecting a visit from the health inspectors so soon.

If Jay was really an astute businessman he would have made sure his establishment was prepared to open to the public, rather than using the reopening as a vehicle to flaunt his wealthy friends to the media.

This is tragic. I really don’t understand how this could have possibly happened. Who is running this establishment? That’s where the true fault lies. I’ve been managing clubs for years. I’ve literally slept in the club until the HVAC guy had every cooler, and fridge running at the proper temp and the Roter Rooter guy had grease snaked out drains etc. I’ve stood my lil behind in a cooler for hours checking temps. There is no way they didn’t have the guidelines for the health inspection beforehand. I imagine they jumped the gun and opened before they had a chance to come. Then after all of the hoopla the NYC health inspector made a “surprise” visit. Heads need to roll because these are really common sense unecessary violations. The management and chef need to go….. But Mr. Carter if you need some help. Call me.

I saw Red Tails and I thought Ne-yo should have been left out, clearly his character was written to be the 2012 Bubba Gump meets CJ from A Soldier’s Story…I thought it was overall pretty good, lagged in some places.

@Ms. Everything. The movie was ok. I didn’t like Cuba Gooding Jr.’s role. I felt like someone with an authoritative presence (and deeper voice) could have played the role better. I have a hard time taking Terrance Howard seriously now after the whole Jamie Foxx roast.

I agree about Ne-yo….he should just stick to singing. Oh and the actual set was horrible….It looked like a set from the 50’s or 60’s type of movie….

I didn’t know it took 23 years to produce and direct though…

Thank u and thank u! The dude that was sitting on the other side of me at the theater yelled out “I’m confused as h3ll” It felt more like a T.V. movie. And yes LT Little and his love plot could have been left out, either u spend more time on the plot line to develop it or leave it out, they could have left it out. His romance was an entirely different movie. One of my friends on fb was like, “Why is everyones edge-up’s so clean, do they have a barber on base?” Also, I would have liked a follow-up on Miles from Moesha/ Black Jesus at the end….

@bnatural.. the set didn’t bother me cause I’m guessing they wanted that old movie feel to it, the only part that annoyed me was Neyo’s talking and some of the lines. Cuba Gooding Jr did okay I guess, he wasn’t great but he wasn’t bad, I generally don’t like him in anything he does though and Terrance Howard was okay simply cause I can see him having that position because he could be considered “non threatening” to white folks (if that makes since)

I can’t remember who asked, but the whole Sofia/Lightening thing didn’t bother me. It would’ve been better translated but at the same time my eyesight is so bad I would’ve been lost even if they had put words up on the screen when she talked

Ty I believe he did. I’ve never been attracted to him outside of his voice but models seem to love him. I just hope the fact that he raised her daughter as his own from that child’s birth when her own father didn’t want her doesn’t get ignored while the divorce happens.
