Former child star Kirk Cameron has once again riled gay advocacy groups with his controversial statements on gay marriage and homosexuality.

Appearing on CNN’s Piers Morgan talk show on Friday, the 41-year-old former ‘Growing Pains‘ star said homosexuality was “unnatural” and “detrimental” to society.

“I think that it’s detrimental and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization,” Cameron told Morgan.

Cameron, who is an Evangelical Christian, also defended the institution of marriage:

“Marriage is almost as old as dirt, and it was defined in the garden between Adam and Eve. One man, one woman for life till death do you part. So I would never attempt to try to redefine marriage. And I don’t think anyone else should either,” Cameron said. “So do I support the idea of gay marriage? No, I don’t.” Source

Opinions are protected by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. Whether gays like it or not, Cameron’s opinions on homosexuality are his opinions and he has the right to express them — according to Morgan.

Morgan called Cameron “brave” and “honest” when he was interviewed by celebrity gossip website TMZ.com, over the weekend.

“I felt that he was honest to what he believed,” Morgan told TMZ when he was asked to weigh in on the controversy.

“He was pretty brave to say what he said…” added Morgan.

This is not the first time Cameron has invoked furor with his opinions on homosexuality and gay marriage. A simple Google check will return dozens of other instances when Cameron has expressed anti-gay sentiments in the past. So what makes this time any different?

Probably because Cameron used the word “unnatural” to define gay sex. But is he wrong?

Traditionalists argue that gay sex is unnatural, since that particular sex act does not produce babies. After all, we were placed here on earth to give birth to future generations which ensures the survival of the human species. Gay sex does not ensure the survival of the human species.
