A 5-year-old boy is in critical condition after police said his mother used a kitchen knife to slash his throat.
Daphne Spurlock, 45, told Magnolia, Texas police she slashed her son’s throat because “he was infested with demons.”
On Saturday night, Spurlock allegedly stomped on her son’s head and chest before slitting his throat.
The child’s father came home from work to find Spurlock standing over the child.
Child Protective Services said it has no history with the family and there are no other children who live in the home. Family members have indicated that Spurlock had recently been battling with mental issues.
The young boy was air-lifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital after his father called 911.
His mother has confessed and is in Montgomery County Jail on attempted capital murder charges. Source

Don’t believe that chit. This is the standard “go-to” defense for female child murderers ever since that chick in Texas got away with killing her four kids in the bath tub.
Why they never “crazy” enough to harm grown folks or peopel not dependent on them. Them “voices” these hoes hear always go away when the person can fight back. That ain’t “crazy.” Crazy ain’t got no limitations like that.

But, how many more babies must die, before we realize this is a real illness? Stop locking up what we perceive as crazy family members or friend’s in their bedroom, take a real step and get them some help. All this medication is not the answer, people can stop taking pills at their will.
I will have to agree with you Sandra on the fact that mental illness is continuing to increase in the black community. I witness it first hand with a few of my relatives and we try to make sure that they are getting the treatment they need. But with other families, they may not see or recognize the signs until its too late!

If you are saying that killing your child is “crazy” in and of itself, then yes, most people would agree with that.
But “crazy” by legal definition of not understanding the consequences of action? No, it isn’t “crazy” in the slightest.
These women know that they won’t have to take care of a child that is deceased, they know if they pull the crazy card they either won’t be convicted or will get a light term and the NEVER go crazy on anyone that can fight them (which proves they aren’t crazy). All of their actions are calculated and logical and she knew the consequences of her actions.
Don’t fall for the okey doke. This is pure malarkey. She knew exactly what she was doing.

Anyone who kills/try to kill their own child IS crazy, IMO.
I work at a psychiatric hosptial and a lot of people in the black community and other ethnic backgrounds do not consider mental illness a real illness. If you had cancer, you would receive treatment. If you are mentally ill, you need to receive treatment. Also it is very common for people who suffer from schizophrenia, not that I’m diagnosing her, to become hyper-religious and consider other people, especially those closest to them or those trying to help them, to be demons.

I dont understand this. If the family knew that she was battling with mental issues, why wasn’t her child taken away? Why did her husband allow his son to be left with a mentally unstable person (mother or not)?
He system makes it so hard to receive services. You can’t well into DCF and give up your child. You have to do “something” to get them to step in. OR they want to offer help to parents who seriously no longer want to be a parent. The system is screwed.

This story saddens me. Because I heard my child’s heartbeat New Years Day and 15 min later the doctor told me I needed surgery because it was a tubal pregnancy. I can’t imagine for the life of me why a mother/father would hurt their own child . I agree Auntie Sandra that people need to address the mental illness and help one another.

The Reagan administration closed down mental public health institutions in the 80’s, now you need insurance or money to be institutionalized- most are outpatients. It’s a sickness, it’s also a hereditary trait that may hit you anytime. I have a friend from high school that gradually went from paranoid to full blown schizo- unfortunately her mother’s side of the family suffer from the disease- her sister refuses to have children because of this.
Mental illness should be taken seriously and dealt with.
