The national media has seized upon the words of a grieving mother who called the shooting death of her son “an accident.”
This morning’s headlines — such as the one on the NY Daily News website reads: Trayvon Martin case: Slain teen’s mom, Sybrina Fulton, says killing was ‘an accident’.
The NY Daily News article goes on to quote Trayvon’s mom, Sybrina Fulton, who said Thursday, “I believe it was an accident. I believe that it just got out of control, and [Zimmerman] couldn’t turn the clock back.”
Fulton and Trayvon’s father, Tracy Martin, were guests on NBC’s “Today” show on Thursday, the morning after the announcement that George Zimmerman would be charged with 2nd degree murder in the shooting death of their son.
In case you’re wondering, an accident does not fall under the category of second-degree murder.
Update: Headline News host Nancy Grace just tweeted this statement from Sybrina Fulton: “The ‘accident’ I was referring to was the fact that George Zimmerman and my son ever crossed paths.”
Welp, that’s all the defense needs. If his own mother doesn’t believe her son was killed out of malice, will a jury?
He will not be convicted of 2nd degree murder.

Sounds like she got tired and wants it all to be over – she wants to forgive and move on. It takes a lot of energy to harness hatred. But this is too far gone, no way back.

She may be saying this out of fear for her only remaining child. Nobody discusses him, but on television he looks scared shtless. I would be too if my brother or sister were executed like that.
And nobody knows the hate mail they must be getting or the the bomb threats. That boy can’t have a normal life ever again. I look at him whenever they appear, just to try to gauge how he’s doing psychologically.

There is no accident when you are not working as security or law enforcement, and you stalk someone with a loaded gun.
Maybe she wanted to put out there that she is a forgiving person, she may have even forgiven Zimmerman for killing her child and that’s fine, but you can be forgiving and call a spade a spade. He was a neighborhood watch person. His role was to observe not pursue. Trayvon was not vandalizing people’s property, he wasn’t tossing rocks at people’s windows, he was simply walking.. Being suspicious could be cause for attention but not action. He shot that kid for no reason. This wasn’t “friendly fire” ma’am. I do not agree and I’m a little disappointed

She was over 100 miles away in Miami when the shooting occurred. It doesn’t matter so I don’t know why people are sweating it.

I saw them holding hands on television yesterday, and they are always thrown together. I’m sure Mr. Martin is spending more time together with them as a family unit than he ever has in quite some time. Plus, together they have all of these memories of Trayvon when he was just growing in the womb, and when he was born, and later developing.

That’s EXACTLY what I thought she meant too. But her choice of words as “accident” just lends credence to the murderers claims of self defense. That he didn’t have “malicious intent.”

Trayvons mother is grieving of course she believes its an accident. She’s not a lawyer. She didn’t witness the crime first hand. They can try to use it but it won’t fly. I’ve been saying these parents are doing too much public speaking. They have a lawyer. Let him do his work. It was only a matter of time before someone “misspoke.”
The defense will seize on the word “accident” and the charge won’t stick. The special prosecutor will walk away without a guilty conscience because Zimmerman will get tried and found innocent.
I just feel like this trial will not have a good ending.

Everytime I see them together, I imagine them as the young people they used to be. I can see what he saw in her beautiful, chocolate brown eyes, and I can see what she saw in his friendly smile.

What Killerman didn’t know is this woman and her kids are his type of people. Trayvon was an advanced placement student with honors classes. Her other son is a college student. Have you heard him speak? When I heard his interview my hatred of Killerman was renewed. This woman was raising good black men. No doubt Trayvon had been cutting up, getting suspended and trying to fit in with a bad crowd, but he had a daddy that could correct him. You need to go to sleep on this post. Religion doesn’t make people lazy. Having faith is means believing in something that you cant see or feel. God WILL work this out. I think Ms Fulton is extremely confused as to how a person could kill her son in cold blood and is trying to rationalize as best she knows how. Like Pillow said she has another son, do you really think she can truly grieve the way she wants? She has to be strong to help her other son who is beyond consolation at this point I’m sure. I would hate to be her and have my every move scrutinized. First she loses her son and now she is thrown into a spotlight she never asked for.

He puts up a website asking for money with quotes about good fighting against evil. Was he calling Trayvon evil? I have never hated anyone before in my life. I have never wished death upon anyone. I am hard pressed to stick up for black men who get killed by the cops when they did even the smallest thing to provoke the officer like moving their car when the officer said stop. Both are fine though, ready for aunt Kita to invite them to Chicago
They are having formal arraignments right now trial set for may 29th. trying to have documents sealed. Still no reaction.
I can’t believe people are really thinking what she said would hurt the case, or what she said to be meaning the whole situation was an accident….Come on people, Think!

– zimmerman called police, in this so-called role, 46 times, one time reporting a boy “about 7-9 years old”

do you think it’s a good idea for her to keep doing interviews though? i just honestly believe she should fall back at this point. when you have to go on tv and make retractions and clarifications, it’s just not good.
I don’t see the problem, that’s for the lawyers to decide, and they must think she’s not a threat/liability to the case.
If she happens to get on the stand, it will only be to characterize her son. She won’t testify in what happened in the shooting, because she wasn’t there or had any connection(like Trayvon’s girlfriend).
