Sports: Kentucky Wildcats Starting 5 Declares for NBA Draft

The starting 5 members of the NCAA champion Kentucky Wildcats are ready to get at the money. The Wildcats — freshmen Anthony Davis, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Marquis Teague, and sophomores Terrence Jones and Doron Lamb — have declared for the NBA draft.

The teammates made their announcement during a nationally televised news conference Tuesday night. “We made it work,” Jones said, according to the Associated Press. “We all wanted to be there and do it together like we’ve done everything else together.”

The men were not shy about revealing their eagerness to begin enjoying the perks of a baller lifestyle — which includes gold diggers and potential baby mamas.

“That’s right, I am going to be rich,” Davis said. “You’ve just got to manage your money well. Good thing is I like math. So I should be fine.”

Kidd-Gilchrist appeared emotional when he said his mother, Cindy Richardson, wanted him to return to school.

“I want to spoil my mom. I think I’m going to spoil my mom to death. That’s one thing I’m looking forward to,” said Kidd-Gilchrist, who plans to buy her a watch for starters. “I’m ready, I think. I’m ready for anything that comes my way now.”

Exposed: The Corporations Behind The Law That May Let Trayvon Martin’s Killer Go FreeSuzanne Merkelson 3.23.2012

It’s been widely reported today that the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), the shadowy corporate front group that unites state lawmakers with corporations to pass state laws favorable to corporate interests, helped pass the law that might allow Trayvon Martin’s killer, George Zimmerman, to escape prosecution. Florida’s “Stand Your Ground,” the law that might help Zimmerman to claim self-defense (despite evidence to the contrary) is just one of many state laws that is nearly identical to ALEC’s model Castle Doctrine Act. The Florida senator who introduced the law, Durell Peadon, was also a member of ALEC. The law passed in 2005.

According to the Center for Media and Democracy, 98 percent of ALEC’s revenues come from corporations, corporate trade groups, and corporate foundations. Each member pays annual fees of between $7,000 and $25,000. ALEC is also supplemented by direct grants. We don’t know all the details about all of ALEC’s funders and members. Here’s a partial list of what we do know about the corporations and foundations who helped fund the group that drafted the law that keeps Trayvon Martin’s killer free — and put more guns on our streets:

•ALEC received $1.4 million in grants from ExxonMobil from 1998-2009.
•It has also received grants from two Koch family-backed foundations: Charles G. Koch Foundation, the Claude R. Lambe Foundation.
•ALEC has received grant money from the billionaire conservative and American Spectator publisher Richard Mellon Scaife‘s Allegheny Foundation and the Coors family’s Castle Rock Foundation.

Several “Basketball Wives” are adamantly refusing to tape the big upcoming reunion show next month, TMZ has learned — and it’s all because of the face-slap lawsuit Jennifer Lawrence filed against Nia Crooks.

As we reported, Jennifer is suing Nia for assault and battery over a January 21st incident at a race track in Florida — when Nia slapped Williams in the side of the head after a nuclear argument (below). Jennifer says she was injured badly during the attack.

But according to sources at VH1, the castmates are convinced Jennifer’s lawsuit was filed out of spite and desperation to dredge up drama around her character — in the vain hope of securing a spot on the show next season. Our sources also think Jennifer’s claim of emotional distress is BS because she never missed a day of shooting.

We’re told several prominent castmembers have vowed to shun her completely … refusing to even speak to Jennifer — and are threatening not to attend the reunion show early next month if she attends.

And there’s this — the contract signed by the “Wives” castmates specifically states …. “Participant expressly assumes the risk of any physical or emotional injuries participant may suffer as a result of participant’s participation in the project.””
