I was reading comments from this morning and I’m sorry that I missed the ADHD comments by jeniefrumdabloc and Miss Miami. I will write a post on ADHD, but the key is to have a lot of patience with ADHD children. They need constant redirection because they can’t hold their attention on one subject for too long.

I was very upset with a woman at my church who was calling a kid in her class bad because he was over active. I took him in to my class after two weeks because the parents were complaining. He is a good kid, I just always have to give him something to do while I am talking. I let him sit at his seat and color and play with a few legos while I read and have discussion time with the kids. When he hears something he wants to respond to, he joins the discussion from his desk. He is very smart, he just can’t sit still and always wants to touch something and do something with his hands. He hugs a lot too. If he is idle, he talks randomly and tries to play with the other kids so, I keep the interactions to a minimum.
I’m not sure if he is ADHD or mildly autistic. Either way, I was very disappointed in his previous teacher.
