NSA leaker Edward Snowden reportedly has left the Moscow airport and entered Russian territory after receiving refugee status in the country.

His lawyer told The Associated Press on Thursday that Snowden had crossed into Russia. A Russian news agency has reported the same.

The development comes more than a month after Snowden first arrived at the Moscow airport from Hong Kong, and was effectively marooned in the airport’s transit zone while he and his supporters tried to sway a country to accept his petition for refugee status.

WikiLeaks, the anti-secrecy group that is supporting Snowden, claimed on its Twitter page that Snowden “has successfully acquired refugee status in Russia.”

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) – A former dietary manager at a state juvenile justice facility has been sentenced to a year in jail for stealing tons of seafood and selling it to restaurants.

Forty-two-year-old Douglas Allen Fairfax of Hagerstown was also ordered to pay restitution for the state at sentencing Wednesday in Frederick County Circuit Court.

Fairfax was charged in April with stealing more than $90,000 from the Department of Juvenile Services’ Victor Cullen Center in Sabillasville. Prosecutors say he used his state-issued credit card to buy 7.5 tons of frozen crab legs, shrimp and other items, worth more than $90,000.
