I don’t believe this story, but the NY Post is running the article as if it’s legit.
A morbidly obese toddler supposedly underwent gastric bypass surgery to lose weight. He is supposedly the youngest person in the world to undergo bariatric surgery.
Bariatric surgery involves reducing the size of the stomach through a variety of surgical procedures including lap band surgery and sleeve gastrectomy (removing part of the stomach to create a stomach pouch the size of a banana).
For the record, no licensed doctor in America who values his medical license would perform such an invasive surgery on a baby.
From The NY Post:
The parents of the toddler from Saudi Arabia who weighed 72 lbs and had a Body Mass Index of 41 sought help because he suffered sleep apnea that caused him to stop breathing while asleep.
The doctors from Prince Sultan Military Medical City at Riyadh were unable to ascertain whether the child’s parents stuck to the diet.
By the time the boy was referred to the obesity clinic he weighed 54 lbs and his obesity had led to sleep apnea and bowing of the legs.
A further attempt at dieting failed and when he reached 72 lbs doctors decided to perform surgery.
Surgeons carried out a laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy on the boy which involved removing the outer margin of the stomach to restrict food intake, leaving a sleeve of stomach, roughly the size and shape of a banana.
Within two months the boy lost 15 per cent of his body weight and two years after the 2010 surgery his weight had fallen from 72 lbs to 52 lbs and his BMI of 24 was within the normal range.
Because part of the boy’s stomach was reportedly removed, the procedure is not reversible, meaning he will live the rest of his life with a stomach the size of a small banana.
This story sounds ridiculous. It would have made more sense to admit the child to a hospital where nurses could monitor his dietary intake.

This story is fake, because some babies are chubby and they lose weight naturally by the time they turn 3. I refuse to believe that surgeons would remove part of a child’s healthy (non-cancerous) stomach and leave him with a pouch for the rest of his life. This story is absurd. There’s no truth to it.

That sounded like a quick decision though… often times it is not the weight that causes sleep apnea. Actually I am incline to believe Sleep Apnea could have caused the child to be overweight than the other way around. When you lack sleep it throws off body functions and causes weight gain. This child might just have respiratory allergies or a narrow air way that could be further studied to help develop a long term approach.

Mom and Dad could have just started feeding the baby right. He had plenty of time to lose the weight. I saw 8 year old twins on GMA this morning where the boy had written a letter to Santa asking him to make kids stop bullying his twin sister. She was morbidly obese as was the mother. I want to write into Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition and ask them to work with the mom and sister. It’s not right that the mother has passed her eating issues onto her small child.

That is child abuse. The parents should have lost custody. It’s a child it is fed what you feed it! No reason for it to be that big. Parents with chubby kids kill me feeding them to make them shut up from crying. You are the parent deal with it. It’s one thing when I see a morbidly obese adult but when I see children teetering around it makes me sick . Buy them a bike and make them play outside take out the things that are keeping them inside . Video games tv and cellphones. Be a parent !

Overweight often times are environmentally issues.
We all have a design and sometimes other influences beside food affects that and the body does not automatically recover in order to fix the issue.

Not really. Maybe you could have left out the part about American doctors since it didn’t take place in America. You keep saying you don’t believe it and it sounds like you are saying it’s not true because no American doctor would do it. I had not initially read the part about the post so you were a little confusing. Also, I know people who have had the surgery and they have told me that if continue to overeat their stomach will not stay the size that it was after the surgery. It will stretch.

My kids very crooked and bowed legs all straightened on their own by age four. My sons doc wanted to brace his legs.
They werent overweight either tho.

Brownskin cutie… anything in your body that is foreign and should not be there takes up space so when you remove it then you have free space so there might be weight loss but minimal and don’t just be worried about your weight going down 3 lbs or so. It is the overall benefits that you get… like resetting your molecular cells by purging the cells of water that were causing the body to not function at optimal levels… better skin and body functions and longer life.

I want to add a note about chicken… it is yummy and good, especially curry chicken, now that I have said that let me continue.
Chicken is an acidic food. So too much chicken causes your body to either enter an acidic state or become more acidic.
Think of it like wanting your hair to grow.
When your hair shafts does not have a close to balance ph… it breaks off, does not grow and is dull. Same thing for the body when we do not neutralize out bodies… things become irregular, we are tired, gas, bloating, blemishes and all types of signs.

U honestly should read the whole story. Because he DID NOT have the surgery in America first. The story is true and he is NOT the first toddler to have this surgery. If you would have read the story – u would know that the parents tried dieting before the surgery but to PREVENT other major diseases – they opted to have the surgery. Not saying that the toddler won’t develop underlying issues in the future but he probably will still be alive to do so.
