Newport police fished the body of a small boy out of the Yaquina Bay on Monday, hours after an Oregon woman calmly phoned 911 to say she threw her son off the Yaquina Bridge.
The woman, Jillian McCabe, 34, was standing on the bridge when police arrived on the scene. McCabe told officers she tossed her autistic son over the side of the bridge because she kept hearing voices telling her to kill him, local NBC affiliate KGW reports.
Jillian and her husband Matt McCabe, who had multiple sclerosis, ran a blog called “Autistic London,” documenting their experience raising their autistic son.
Jillian recently filed an appeal asking for financial help for her family. She wrote that Matt went from the “sole breadwinner and provider to not” after a mass was found on his brain stem.
“I am taking care of our son London and now Matt full-time,” she wrote. “I am applying for any and all assistance available … I NEED YOUR HELP.”
On their blog Jillian often posted famous quotes such as this one by Thomas Jefferson: “When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on.”
