Dead as hell at the mention of Glamour Shots. Do they still have those. Had a chick give me one of hers in high school. She was dark brown sister that wore purple in the photo. For why did the entire photo have a purple hue. Wifey found it years ago in a box I forgot about and asked was I still pining over Barnie. So mean, yet such an accurate description.
For a small minority the colors match dead on.. for others we have other undertones to our skin and placing Mac on it with its red undertone to it leaves us look a shade under or over.

I used to wear Fashion Fair before I started really wearing makeup. Brown Sugar lipstick was everything to me in high school. I actually never wore foundation until my wedding day. God blessed me with pretty good skin. I wear it now cause I just like wearing makeup to work.

Hello! Somewhat newish, more long-time lurker, previous commenter and life got in the way…one thing I will say is she’s definitely gorgeous, but as a former professional makeup artist (of over a decade), the disparities in these two shots can come from a handful of things…MANY make up artist (even some of the brown ones sadly) do not know how to match brown skin (or the mix and match for the many undertones that come with it) for photography and other non-natural light (hence the first picture looking like a metallic mess, along with no highlighting to bring her natural hues and undertones up and not make her appear so flat)….if you’re not in a circumstance and actually know what you’re doing or have someone tapping you on the shoulder like “nah breh” many directors will only see that “s/he looks well enough in character lets shoot!” and not send someone back to make-up for color corrections.
Yes you Will let me continue because it’s my opinion. The longest her hair has ever been was a little past her shoulders, and whatever is left of it I’m sure is fried and damaged thanks to years of hair coloring, and extensions.

I had one done and yea they told me to come in with my hair clean and that’s it. So I wash and just blow dry no press no flat iron just bushy. Needless to say they just bumped a few strands and had my chit looking big as fugg. The pose that they had me do made the overall pic come out nice but yea never again..and that chit COST!

As a Black American woman of dominant AfRAkan ancestry, there is no such thing as ‘too Black’ or ‘too Dark’ to me. I’ve never been confused about why we are called BLACK in the first place. It’s what our CARBON gene codes produce. I champion and wholeheartedly embrace the aesthetics of authentic BLACK BEAUTY and AfRAkan femininity. I know what REAL Black ethnicity looks like in its original, authentic form WITHOUT the downgrade or amalgamation of white blood. By default, Blackness produces diversity. None is more majestic than the Jet/Charcoal/Blue Blacks and Ebony-hued among world-wide Black ethnic groups COLLECTIVELY called the AfRAkan race.
It is highly unfortunate that Black Americans have no collective standard for Blackness (too inclusive..unlike other Black ethnic groups) by which to establish an homogeneous identity that facilitates unity whereby we strategize, operate and execute as a collective for our OWN interests.
