Karla Lee, the mother of slain 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee, hopped a flight for Las Vegas after burying her son, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Lee came under fire when she went on social media and bragged about purchasing a 2015 Chrysler with public donations that were intended to go toward her son’s funeral expenses.
Supporters who donated $17,000 to Lee reacted angrily on social media. Lee posted Instagram videos explaining she purchased the car for her own personal safety after her son was murdered by gang members.
She deleted the videos after the intense backlash on Facebook.com.
Many donors emailed Gofundme.com demanding the return of their donations.
Lee’s family members are reportedly furious over Lee’s trip to Las Vegas.
There have been no arrests in Tyshawn’s murder.
