YouTube star James Wright Chanel‘s 15 minutes are winding down. Chanel became an overnight sensation when he sang the praises of Patti LaBelle‘s high calorie sweet potato pies. His ecstatic review helped Walmart sell over 1 million of the sugary confections.
But some say he’s doing too much.
Chanel capitalized on his newfound fame by filming a holiday special with Patti for The Cooking Channel and recording a solo single in less than a week.
But Chanel’s single was not met with the same enthusiasm as his Patti Pies review.
The cold hard fact is Mr. Chanel can’t sing.
It’s easy to queen out in your living room with an audience of one. But Chanel was clearly nervous about singing for his supper in a roomful of about 20 rapt listeners.
A video teaser released by The Cooking Channel to promote the holiday special didn’t fare any better on social media.
Chanel and Patti’s holiday special airs Wednesday on the Cooking Channel.
