Gwinnett police now know who shot 6-year-old Ni-Shawn Moore while he was riding his bike.
The shooter was another child.
Police say the boy’s friend accidentally shot him in the chest with a .22-caliber weapon on March 12.
Police initially thought Ni-Shawn was shot with a BB gun, according to AJC.com.
Ni-Shawn was discharged from Children’s Healthcare a week later.
“After an extensive investigation, the lead detective has determined that the shooting was accidental and occurred between the victim and his friend,” Gwinnett police Cpl. Michele Pihera said. “[The detective] hasn’t yet determined if criminal charges will be filed due to the ages of the parties involved.”
A woman who was hosting a backyard BBQ when Ni-Shawn was shot called 911 to say the boy’s father and a group of men came to her home threatening her.
“I don’t know these people,” she told the dispatcher. “They came over with a big group, and we’re having a party. And they’re saying somebody shot their kid, and they’re going to come back and handle it.”
Police did not confirm if the young shooter was related to the woman or where he got the gun.
