600 fans turned out at Suite Lounge in Atlanta as reality TV personality and singer K Michelle hosted a release party for her latest album, More Issues Than Vogue, last night.
More Issues Than Vogue sold only 51,000 copies, but it was enough to land her at #1 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Chart and #2 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart.
Atlantic Records rewarded her efforts by giving the singer her own record label.
“I have to sign at least 2-3 artist a year to Atlantic. I’m shocked, I can’t believe they gave it to me — I’m excited,” Michelle told V-103 radio mid-day personality, Big Tigger.
“I know what it’s like to sign someone and leave them sitting around, that’s not right. I don’t like when artist do other artist like that. I’ll be bringing in artist through my imprint to Atlantic and they will be running it with their staff, because what I don’t want to do is get so caught up in doing what I’m doing that I halt someone else’s dream.”
Michelle also discussed returning to VH1’s Love and Hip Hop Atlanta as a full-time cast member after VH1 declined to renew her reality TV series, My Life, for a 3rd season.
“I told VH1, I challenge you all to not just do the drama and entertainment. I challenge you all to help people,” she told Tigger. “It’s okay for me to be on there in my restaurant, in my home, with my label things like that,” she said. “You have to use TV because black artist don’t get TV, often. You have to use TV to your advantage and know how to use it.”
