Clayton County police identified the shooting victim whose death prompted the lockdown of nearby Charles Drew High School on Wednesday.
The body of Cedric Clark, 17, was found by a homeowner who was leaving for work early Wednesday, the AJC.com reports.
The homeowner found Clark’s body in her backyard in the 5800 block of Eagles Feather Lane, about a mile from his Riverdale home.
Police responded to the scene just before 8 a.m. They believe the shooting occurred Tuesday night.
“We believe he was on foot in the area,” Clayton County police Deputy Chief Joseph Woodall said during an 11 a.m. press conference.
AJC.com reports Charles Drew High School will remain on a “soft lockdown” Wednesday while Clayton County police continue their investigation.
During a soft lockdown, all exterior doors to the school are locked, and parents can only enter with proper identification.
“This is an unfortunate incident,” said Clayton County Public Schools spokeswoman Jada Dawkins. “Our heart goes out to the students, staff and family of the victim.”
