Were you wondering why LeBron James wore a rather large safety pin on his lapel on the cover of Sports Illustrated‘s “Sportsperson of the Year” issue?
It turns out James wore the safety pin in silent protest of Donald Trump, who won the presidential election by a landslide over Hillary Clinton.
The Huffington Post explained that James and other Trump haters fasten safety pins to their clothing to align themselves with “groups who have been maligned by Trump, to show that they stand in solidarity with anyone who might be afraid.”.
Afraid of what?
All that James and the other pin wearers seem to have in common is their irrational fear and hatred of all things Trump.
James, who jumped on the Hillary Clinton bandwagon in the days leading up to the election, recently refused to stay at the luxury Trump SoHo hotel when the Cavaliers traveled to New York to play the Knicks.
James stubbornly requested to stay in a separate hotel that didn’t have Trump’s name on it.
Rather than cancel all the rooms, Cavs general manager David Griffin told the Associated Press that he made reservations for a group of black players “that wants to be together elsewhere.”
It’s not very sporting of James to be such a sore loser.
