MOAB bomb

President Donald Trump sent a clear message to terror group ISIS by dropping the “mother of all bombs” on ISIS’ stronghold in Afghanistan.

The fearsome-looking GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb, nicknamed MOAB, was dropped in the Nangarhar Province of Afghanistan at 7 p.m. Wednesday, according to CNN.com.

The massive bomb weighs 21,600 pounds and is America’s most powerful non-nuclear bomb. This was the first time the bomb was used in a war.

CNN reports the bomb was dropped by an MC-130 aircraft and its target was an ISIS tunnel and cave complex as well as ISIS personnel in the Achin district of the Nangarhar province.

Gen. John Nicholson, commander of US forces in Afghanistan, signed off on the use of the bomb, which sat in storage for over 2 decades. The munition was developed during the Iraq war.
