Now we know why First Daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner cut their Middle East trip short and returned to the U.S. ahead of her father, President Trump.
In a revealing cover interview with Us magazine, Ivanka says she disagrees with her father on everything from LGBT rights to abortion rights.
Since accepting her role as special advisor to her powerful dad, Ivanka, 35, has battled the president on issues that are important to her. And she doesn’t always win the battle.
“Sometimes she and Jared are a big influence on Donald and sometimes he takes other opinions into account and does something they disagree with,” an insider tells Us magazine. “They win some and they lose some.”
One position she lost was convincing her petulant father to remain in the Paris Climate agreement. A source close to Ivanka says she was “disappointed” by his decision to pull out of the Paris accord.
Ivanka, who a friend describes as a “skilled negotiator”, states her case firmly and directly.
“Where I disagree with my father, he knows it,” she told Gayle King in an April 5 interview. “And I express myself with total candor.”
But Ivanka will not tender her resignation like the rats who jumped ship in recent weeks.
I go to the mat on certain issues and I may still lose those,” she recently explained to The New York Times. “But maybe along the way I’ve modified a position just slightly. And that’s just great.”
