I was going to ignore the plethora of emails I received after publishing my post titled “Plus-Size Singer Rihanna Stuns At ‘Valerian’ Premiere“. But my Inbox is still being inundated with angry emails.

I have 2 words for you if you emailed me: Grow Up.

Rihanna is plus-size. Get over it.

This is what Plus-size looks like. Model Ashley Graham is proud to be plus-size. Being plus-size is not the same as fat or obese, which can lead to heart disease and other medical disorders.

As I noted in an earlier post, according to PLUS Model magazine, plus size is defined as sizes 10-14.

At 5-3 and 140 pounds, your auntie is considered plus-size — and I have no problem with that. It just means there is more of me to squeeze.

Some of you need to get over your negative self-image and realize that not everyone assumes being plus-size is bad or undesirable.

Stop projecting your self-defeating attitudes onto others. Change your attitudes and maybe you will live longer and appreciate life more.

Hey Sandra Rose,

Please stop your body shaming nonsense. As a women is disconcerting that you would perpetuate judgment on a woman’s body. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Arianna

Dear Sandra Rose,

Recently I reviewed an article that you wrote featuring Rihanna. While I found no issue with the content, I found a problem with the title, “Plus-Size Singer Rihanna Stuns at Valerian Premiere.”

While Rihanna is a stunningly beautiful woman, she is not plus-size! And, there is NOTHING wrong with being a more voluptuous female in society, I just question your use of the word “Plus-Size.” Was it intended to shock, insult or separate us? As women, we dont design our DNA, our DNA designs us! We dont need the LABELS that you and the media attach to ALL women. It only perpetuates a culture of dissemblance and sometimes a path to bad self esteem issues. Globally we are still fighting so many forms of discrimination. My suggestion to you is to shake loose of the inappropriate size classifications, unless you want to be known as having the social grace of someone like Howard Stern! Women are beautiful creatures. We are all Diamonds… cut in different shapes and sizes! Value your sisters and please lose the labels of size descriptions!

Most Sincerely,
Cynthia Michaels

I read your response to the criticism of your Rihanna article, and you must be talking about some other Rihanna because there’s no way that she is even close to a size 10.
With the height and weight you say she has, even by your own definition she does not qualify as “plus size.” You must be making a really poorly executed joke because I just can’t believe that someone would earnestly write something that contradictory. And bringing your own measurements into it was very odd and doesn’t make for a solid argument anyway.

Furthermore, regardless of what size Rihanna truly is, it’s completely inappropriate and objectifying to identify someone by their weight in a headline. Unless she self describes as a “plus size singer”, a reference to her size (whether accurate or complete bullshit as yours was) shouldn’t grace the page at all. I can’t believe you call yourself a journalist while writing trash like that. People who write things for the purpose of instigating a negative response from people have no talent or moral compass.

This is why everyone turns against the media these days… You’re creating this problem that gives people like Donald Trump a platform and legitimacy in his criticisms of the media, so shame on you!! If you want to stand behind your headline that’s your business, but just know you’re really ignorant and actively perpetuating objectification of women and delegitimization of journalism. Congrats!!!

What in the world is wrong with this writer? Why, why, why did a qualifier of “plus size” which she is so far from, have to be in the article? Do you describe Celo Green, or any other “big” male star this way? No. THIS is why eating disorders are rampant in our youth.
Appalling.

Carol Watt a “real” plus size woman.

Dear Writer,

I’m sure this is an attempt at getting hits likes or subscribers, but labeling an obviously below average size woman plus size is BULLSHIT! There are millions of your girls who look up to Rihanna and for you to misrepresent her in such a way furthers the fight for women raising young girls and women. I’m sure you have no shame or empathy. For if you did your lack thereof would be so grossly profound. Should you have daughters this isn’t the best media for them to find encouragement. Do better!

You’re clearly stupid and should probably remove your bias from your writing on Rihanna. At 5′ 9″ and 160lbs (which you are guessing in your delusional mind) would give her a BMI of 23.6 which is normal/healthy weight. I suggest you try to fix yourself up before coming for someone who is out of your league and not two wuk-ups about you does she give. Take your short ass back under a bridge, troll!

Rihanna is not plus size not has she ever been plus size. She gained weight but it is still healthy on her and she can still wear most clothes allot of ppl can’t. Hollywood needs to really refocus on what is plus size and what is not plus size. She doesn’t even have a muffin top or rolls on her back… You can clearly tell her stomach is still flat.. Just because she isn’t skinny to the Hollywood unhealthy standard.. she has curves..and proportioned very well…

140 at 5’3 is no more “svelte” than 160 at 5’9. Stop kidding yourself, your bmi is higher than Rhianna’s. Literally take 30 seconds to google it. I’m not calling you fat or ugly, I’m just saying that if Rhianna is plus sized at her BMI then you definitely must be as well. I’m 5’5 and 140 and I’m above average healthy weight. You might be perfectly lovely and beautiful, I honestly have no idea. I’m not sure why you referred to her as “plus size” in the title anyway, honestly, even if she is, because her size is pretty irrelevant to the article.

You need to edit this article about Rihanna being “plus size”.. seriously shame on you. There are thousands upon thousands of kids and adults suffering from eating disorders in this world and you unnecessarily call her plus size.. You have/ are causing serious damage to anyone who looks up to her that already has a negative body imagine of themselves.

Dear Sandra Rose,

In what world is Rihanna “plus size”. Do you want little girls to be anorexic?
