Beyonce Knowles-Carter‘s hopes of buying the Houston Rockets NBA team have been dashed. Unfortunately, Beyonce’s money wasn’t long enough to purchase the team, which she lost to CNBC star and billionaire restaurateur Tilman Fertitta.
Fertitta agreed to purchase Beyonce’s hometown team for $2.2 billion, according to ESPN on Tuesday.
Beyonce, who turned 40 on Monday, Sept. 4, expressed an interest in buying the Houston Rockets. But her pockets weren’t deep enough to buy an entire NBA team (a girl can dream, though).
Beyonce and her mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson, milked their PR stunt for all it was worth. She even wore a Rockets team jersey to husband Jay Z‘s Made In America Music Festival in Philadelphia over the weekend.
The Rockets’ current owner Leslie Alexander purchased the team for a bargain $85 million in 1993. He will see a very nice return on his investment.
According to Forbes, Fertitta is an investor worth over $3.1 billion. He also stars in the CNBC reality show “Billion Dollar Buyer” where he buys startup companies for pennies on the dollar.
