Several NFL teams are vowing to stand during the national anthem this weekend. Multiple NFL players kneeled during the anthem last Sunday to demonstrate their anti-Trump sentiments. But their protests didn’t go over well with fans.
The players were outraged at comments made by President Trump during a rally in Alabama.
Offensive lineman Alejandro Villanueva, an Army veteran, was the only Steelers player to stand alone outside the tunnel during the playing of the anthem last Sunday.
After the game, furious fans posted videos of themselves burning Steelers gear and season tickets.
Following the backlash, the Pittsburgh Steelers declared there would be no more kneeling on the sidelines during the national anthem.
Offensive lineman Maurkice Pouncey said the entire team will stand for the anthem this Sunday.
“Pittsburgh Steelers will go out there and do the right thing,” Pouncey told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
The Denver Broncos ball club also said they plan to stand during the anthem on Sunday.
“We’re a team and we stand together — no matter how divisive some comments and issues can be, nothing should ever get in the way of that,” the team said in a statement on Instagram. “Starting Sunday, we will be standing together.”
