One-hit-wonder Cardi B graces the cover of Rolling Stone. The 25-year-old Bronx native’s career is on fire thanks to her quirky summer hit “Bodak Yellow”.
Cardi discussed her humble beginnings growing up in the Bronx’s Highbridge neighborhood. After weighing her options (to eat or continue her studies), she dropped out of community college and took a well-paying gig as a stripper.
“A lot of people wonder, ‘Why would anybody want to be a dancer?'”, she says. “Because there’s money! I kept missing classes, and quit because I felt like I was already failing. It was such a disappointment,” she said.
Cardi raised eyebrows when she told the interviewer, “Girl, I don’t even use a condom.”
She commented on her doubters who say she is a one-hit-wonder. She says all the talk is distracting.
“Can she make another hit, can she make another hit?”
“I got six, seven solid songs that I like, but I wonder if a month from now, I’m going to change my mind,” she says. “It’s not as fun to do music. My mind doesn’t flow as free ’cause I have so much on my mind.”
When asked where she sees herself 25 years from now, she replied, “I see myself cursin’ at my kids.”
