Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown fans did not embrace TV One’s docudrama about the life and death of their daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown. The ratings are in and they are not good.
The Bobbi Kristina biopic aired on Sunday. The storyline picks up after Whitney’s death. Whitney (played by Demetria McKinney) died in a bathtub in a Beverly Hills hotel on Feb. 11, 2012 at age 47.
The biopic explores Krissi’s struggle to come to terms with her mother’s death and her own dysfunctional relationship with boyfriend Nick Gordon (played by Nadji Jeter).
The show also delved into the sometimes strained relationship between Bobbi K and her father, New Edition singer Bobby Brown (played by Hassan Johnson), who butts heads with her aunt Patricia Houston (played by Vivica A. Fox).
The biopic picked up some free press when Brown filed a lawsuit to stop the show from airing. He lost his lawsuit a few days before the show aired.
TV One probably hoped the publicity from Brown’s lawsuit would be enough to boost viewership. But unfortunately, only 660,000 people in the entire United States tuned in to watch.
