Rapper Cardi B covers the current issue of Billboard magazine to celebrate her historic rise to the top of the Hot 100 chart.
But despite her many achievements in 2017, the 25-year-old Bronx native has one regret: that she failed to deliver a second hit record to avoid being categorized as a “one-hit-wonder” for life.
Along the way from reality TV obscurity to hip-hop stardom, Cardi became the first female to grace the top of the chart since Lauryn Hill; she picked up two Grammy nominations for her only hit “Bodak Yellow”, and she got engaged to fellow one-hit wonder rapper Offset of Migos.
“Cardi is the people’s champion,” says Atlantic president of black music Michael Kyser. “She doesn’t know how to play industry games — she’s six months removed from the Bronx projects.”
What’s in store for Cardi in 2018?
According to Billboard, Cardi thinks she and Offset will move to Atlanta, because “guys from down south don’t move here.” And, besides, they want a “big crazy” house… As for her longtime plan to have a baby at 25, the age that she is now, that will have to wait.
