Rapper/actor Common and political commentator Angela Rye attended the Los Angeles Screening of Showtime’s The Chi at The Downtown Independent on Wednesday. The Chi is a TV series created by Lena Waithe about life on the South Side of Chicago.
Unlike director Spike Lee‘s widely panned film Chi-Raq, which focused on gang violence in Chicago, Waithe takes the viewer on a fanciful journey that portrays South Side residents in a positive “human light”.
