President Trump tweeted about the untimely death of Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson who was killed when an illegal immigrant drunk driver ran him over on Super Bowl Sunday in Minneapolis.
Manuel Orrego-Savala, an illegal alien from Guatemala, was driving drunk when he lost control of his car and veered onto the shoulder of Interstate 70, striking both Jackson, 26, and his driver Jeffrey Monroe, 54, of Avon, Indiana.
Jackson had asked Monroe to pull over because he was feeling sick. Monroe got out of the car to assist Jackson when they were both struck and killed before dawn Sunday.
Police say Orrego-Savala fled the scene on foot, but he was captured a short while later.
He was driving without a license and he gave police an alias, claiming he was 37-year-old Alex Cabrera Gonsales. His breath alcohol content was .15.
Orrego-Savala had been deported twice, once in 2007 and again in 2009.
President Trump, who promised to build a wall at the Mexican border during his campaign, called Jackson’s death “disgraceful” and a “preventable tragedy” on Twitter.com on Tuesday.
“So disgraceful that a person illegally in our country killed @Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson,” he tweeted. “This is just one of many such preventable tragedies. We must get the [Democrats] to get tough on the Border, and with illegal immigration, FAST!”

Vice President Mike Pence also tweeted about Jackson’s death:
“On my way to Alaska. I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Indianapolis @Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson. This was a senseless & avoidable tragedy. This is a great loss for the entire Indiana community. My prayers are with his family in their time of grief.”
About four minutes later Twump tweeted: “My prayers and best wishes are with the family of Edwin Jackson, a wonderful young man whose life was so senselessly taken. @Colts.”
