Melania Trump was hospitalized to undergo surgery to remove a benign kidney tumor at Walter Reed Medical Center. The White House announced the surgery went well and there were no complications.
The White House press release stated the 49-year-old first lady had an embolization procedure to cut off blood to a “benign” tumor in one of her kidneys.
“The First Lady looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere,” the statement said.
A benign tumor is a non-cancerous growth in the lining of the tiny tubules of the kidney. More common kidney growths include kidney cysts.
The First Lady will remain in the hospital for the rest of the week.
