Former NBA player Matt Barnes, left, issued a stern warning to troll rapper 6ix9ine, aka Tekashi69, to let him know that gang banging and social media don’t mix.
In a video published by TMZ, Barnes warned the SoundCloud rapper to watch his back after rapper, XXXTentacion, was gunned down in South Florida on Monday.
Barnes implied that X “got in too deep” with the gang culture that clashes with Internet rappers on social media. Disputes are often settled offline with gun violence.
“Bro must have a death wish, man, cause these motherf**kers are not playing. They eat motherf**kers like this for a living,” said Barnes, referring to Tekashi who is known more for trolling on social media than for his music.
Barnes warned Tekashi to curb his enthusiasm for social media ‘Likes’ and follows — or he could be next.
“You gonna end up running into somebody REAL that’s gonna turn your lights out, man. All for what? All for popularity or for some likes?”
Fans of slain rapper XXXTentacion shut down Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles during a Memorial for him on Tuesday night. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office called X’s death a random burglary attempt.
But social media users say they know who the killer is — and X’s murder was not random.
X was shot and killed by two gunmen wearing black hoodies as he sat in his car outside a motorcycle dealership in Deerfield Beach, FL on Monday. One of the gunmen wore a red mask.
Later, an Internet rapper named Kidd Soldier posted an image of himself and a homie posing on a car. In the front seat was a red mask.
On Tuesday, Kidd Soldier uploaded a video to social media denying his involvement in X’s death.
But others noted that Kidd posted the image of the red mask after details of the shooting were known to the public. They say he posted the image to capitalize off of the tragedy by drawing attention to himself.
