Atlanta police are investigating 3 deadly shootouts that occurred within hours in one day in Atlanta. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution published this photo of a family mourning a man who was fatally shot on Simmons Street on Thursday.

Atlanta police told Channel 2 Action News a man in his 40s was gunned down on the front porch of a home during a shootout in the 600 block of Simmons Street.

An officer who was nearby and heard the gunfire arrived on the scene within minutes.

“Officers arrived right after the call came in to 911,” Atlanta police Lt. LeAnne Browning told WSB-TV. “They found the victim inside the residence.”

The victim was pronounced dead at Atlanta’s Grady Memorial Hospital.

Family members say the unnamed man was a loving father of four.

“He took care of his kids,” the victim’s brother told AJC.com. “They were all he had.”

The Simmons Street shootout was the last of three shoutouts in one day on the streets of Atlanta.

The Peach city has been dubbed “Chi-Lanta” — drawing comparisons to Chicago, the city with the highest rate of gun-related crimes in the nation.

via AJC.com –A man, who has not been identified, was found shot about 8 p.m. in the 3000 block of Delmar Lane Thursday night and later died at a local hospital.

Then, about 11 p.m., 30-year-old Deonta Wallace was shot in the parking lot of the Verbena Garden apartments. Responding officers found the man dead between two cars.

The crime scenes stretch from Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard to Hollowell Parkway.
