President Trump sparked confusion when he claimed Tuesday that he has “100 pictures” of special counsel Robert Mueller and ex-FBI Director James Comey “hugging and kissing each other.”
Trump made the claim during an Oval Office interview with right-wing blog The Daily Caller, which published a full transcript of the conversation on Wednesday.
“I have 100 pictures of Mueller and Comey hugging and kissing,” Trump reportedly said.
The president is the subject of a nearly 2-year investigation into alleged Russian collusion. He angered the so-called “deep state” establishment in Washington, D.C. when he firing Comey.
Trump has repeatedly taken to Twitter to slam both Mueller and Comey.
“He’s Comey’s best friend,” Trump said of Mueller. “And I could give you 100 pictures of him and Comey hugging and kissing each other. You know, he’s Comey’s best friend,” Trump repeated.
The New York Daily News reached out to a White House spokeswoman to explain what Trump meant.
“We’ll decline to comment,” special counsel spokesman Peter Carr told the Daily News on Wednesday.
