Vic Mensa is on the hot seat after he dropped an unfortunately-timed diss to the late rap artist XXXTentacion in his BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher (freestyle) — in front of X’s mother who sat in the audience.
Vic admonished X for beating and abusing women in his Cypher, which aired during the BET live telecast from Miami Beach, Florida on Saturday.
X was accused of domestic violence and he was jailed before being released on bond to await trial. X was ambushed and killed by armed robbers outside a Deerfield Beach, FL motorcycle dealership on June 18. Four suspects are in custody awaiting trial on 1st-degree murder charges.
Black Twitter, which doesn’t want to hear anything negative about their heroes, dragged Vic up and down his timeline. Fellow rappers threatened his life and one rapper, Trippie Redd, challenged him to “pull up” and fight him.
Someone created this Internet meme of XXXTentacion giving Vic a ride on his shoulders.
All of this drama caught the attention of the mainstream media, forcing Vic to issue a video apology to X’s mother — while defending his stance on domestic violence.
He captioned the video:
“Protect women. Domestic & sexual abuse are not excusable because you have talent or you are troubled. With that said I was not aware his mother would be in attendance & I offer her my deepest condolences.”
The soft-spoken rapper explained that his Cypher was “prerecorded weeks ago, and I had no idea a grieving mother would be in the audience to honor her lost son.”
Well, since he explains it that way, one can only hope X’s mother will find it in her heart to forgive the young man.
