Jeff Bezos is a single man after 25 years of marriage and 2 kids. The Amazon founder just settled the most expensive divorce in U.S. history. He will keep 75% of his stock in Amazon, while his soon-to-be ex-wife, MacKenzie, will walk away with stock worth $36 billion.
According to published reports, MacKenzie will get a 4% stake in Amazon worth about $32 billion at today’s stock prices. She also gets stock in The Washington Post and Blue Horizon, a space travel company founded by Bezos.
Even after giving up 25% of his Amazon stock to his soon-to-be ex-wife, Bezos is still the world’s richest man with a net worth of $100 billion – about $10 billion more than America’s 2nd richest man Bill Gates.
Bezos and MacKenzie announced the finalization of their divorce on Twitter.com on Thursday.
Bezos announced his impending divorce in January before the National Enquirer was set to go public with his extramarital affair with married journalist Lauren Sanchez (pictured below).
In a post on Medium.com in February, Bezos accused The Enquirer of blackmailing him. He claimed the publication threatened to post photos of him in various stages of undress and in intimate positions with Sanchez on a yacht.
Michael Sanchez, Lauren’s brother, was later revealed to be the inside source who leaked the photos to The Enquirer. Michael, who is a longtime source for The Enquirer, has denied leaking the photos of Bezos, according to The Wall Street Journal and The Daily Beast.
