Remy Ma is in police custody on a misdemeanor battery charge after turning herself in on Wednesday. The rapper was arrested after Love & Hip Hop co-star Brittney Taylor accused her of assault. The rapper might be headed back to prison after violating her parole stemming from a shooting incident outside a Manhattan nightclub in 2007.
Brittney, who starred in Love & Hip Hop: NY season 8, displayed a black eye in a video posted to her Instagram page after being attacked by Remy earlier this month.
Remy mocked Brittney by posting Instagram photos that showed her wearing an ankle monitor (above).
Brittney’s lawyer was not impressed with Remy’s jokes.
“This arrest demonstrates how serious this matter is,” lawyer Sandford Rubenstein told a local ABC affiliate. “It is real life and not reality TV entertainment. The victim, Brittney Taylor, has confidence in our system of justice and will continue to fully cooperate with the authorities.”
When asked what prompted the incident, Rubinstein said a dispute between Brittney and Remy’s stepchild led to an argument. “A conversation did take place involving Remy Ma’s stepchild. I don’t have any details with regard to the specifics of the conversation, but that’s what led up to the event.”
Remy, 38, served time in prison for shooting Makeda Barnes-Joseph outside a Manhattan nightspot in 2007. She was convicted of the lesser charges of assault and illegal weapon possession in March 2008 and released from prison in 2015.
The judge noted that Remy, who was born Reminisce Smith, showed no remorse for the shooting since she rifled through the victim’s purse looking for stolen money, after shooting the victim in the abdomen.
