Karamo Brown expressed his bitter disappointment in TV hunk Mario Lopez after he said it’s “dangerous” for parents to allow their minor children to choose genders.
Lopez made the comments on conservative commentator Candace Owens’ YouTube show last month. Lopez, 45, chimed in when Owens expressed her opinions on actress Charlize Theron’s decision to allow her seven-year-old child Jackson, who was born a boy, to identify as a girl.
“My God if you’re three-years-old and you’re saying you’re feeling a certain way you think you’re a boy or a girl whatever the case may be… I just think it’s dangerous as a parent to make that determination then, OK well then you’re gonna be a boy or a girl,” he said.
“It’s sort of alarming and my gosh, I just think about the repercussions later on,” the father-of-three continued. “I think parents need to allow their kids to be kids, but at the same time, you got to be the adult in the situation.”
Brown, who is openly homosexual, took to Twitter.com to vent his frustration at Lopez’s comments, writing: “I’m disappointed to read @MarioLopezExtra comments about parent’s who support their child’s openes [sic] about their gender identity. As a social worker I am trained to identify abuse or neglect of a child. Healthy & safe dialogue w/ kids is neither abusive, neglectful or ‘dangerous’.”
Brown, a trained psychotherapist, stars as the culture expert on the popular Netflix web series, Queer Eye.
The 38-year-old father of two boys wrote a follow-up post to offer his psychotherapy services to Lopez.
“I don’t think @MarioLopezExtra should be ‘canceled’,” Brown wrote. “But I do believe he should be given the opportunity to learn why his comments are harmful to trans youth and their parents. Mario, I’m ready to talk when you are.”
Other fans agreed with Brown’s views on Lopez’s statements. One Twitter user wrote: “After that interview where Mario decided to say that being trans is a ‘weird’ trend these days, it’s ‘dangerous’ & that being trans is defined by someone’s sexuality just shows how uneducated, & shallow minded he is.”
Another added: “I don’t understand why #MarioLopez wouldn’t respect other people’s choices to live honestly as who they are. I respect his choice to live openly as an a*shole.”

All Mario Lopez said was 3 years old is too young to be making life changing decisions. But we live in an age where if a public figure offers an unpopular opinion on LGBTQ issues, they’re “cancelled.” ????? pic.twitter.com/q1vZitbCy9
