Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, was advised not to marry Prince Harry before tying the knot in a fairy tale wedding in England last year.

WENN.com reports the 38-year-old former Suits actress opened up about life as the wife of a British prince in a new documentary for ITV, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, which aired on Sunday night, Oct. 20, in the U.K..

In the documentary, Meghan broke down when discussing the brutal treatment she received from the British tabloids and some Brits.

Prince Harry still blames the British media for killing his mother, Princess Diana. She died in a horrific car crash when the limo she was riding in was pursued by paparazzi on motorcycles.

Meghan was introduced to Harry by a mutual friend, tennis superstar Serena Williams.

After a 2-year, long distance courtship, Harry popped the question.

But Meghan admitted several of her close British pals warned her not to marry the prince, telling her “you shouldn’t do it because the British tabloids will destroy your life”.

“My British friends, they were sure he was lovely, but they said I shouldn’t do it because ‘the British tabloids will destroy your life’. Because I’m American I very naively didn’t get it. It’s complicated.”

“In all fairness, I had no idea, which probably sounds difficult to understand, but when I first met Harry, my friends were so excited, my U.S. friends were happy because I was happy,” Meghan said.

Meghan’s life became even more complicated when she gave birth to son Archie, her and Harry’s first child, in May.

She said she struggles as a new mom being in the media spotlight. Meghan hinted that she is suffering from postpartum depression.

“Look, any woman especially when they are pregnant you’re really vulnerable and so that was made really challenging, and then when you have a newborn – you know… And especially as a woman, it’s a lot.”

“Also thank you for asking, because not many people have asked if I’m OK,” she said, fighting back tears. “But it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes.”

When asked if she was “struggling,” a visibly upset Meghan replied: “Yes,” according to London’s Daily Mail.
